Looks like Mr. Guest has a lot to be ashamed about the history of his own community. Words of "wisdom" brandished aggressively is a common trait seen in modern "educated" minorities from India.
Keep up the good work Mr. Srinivasan. This topic is documented in the book "Invading the Sacred"

I am an avid reader of Mr. Srinivasan's articles. I like his style, his logic, the impeccable English and more than anything else, his immense knowledge of the subjects he writes about. Well, having said this, I wonder if this article has gone one bit too far in glorifying Hinduism and condemning Christianity. Theory apart, as a Catholic who lived in India all my life, till I came to the USA a few months ago, I know this much. Christianity for all it's so called 'violent preachings' is the only religion that does something in real life for the upliftment of the underpriveleged amongst us. India has countless Christian run hospitals and schools in places where the holiest of Hindus fear to tread, and running these schools and hospitals comes with a stiff price.....sometimes, the lives of people who take up this challenge in the name of Christ. The burning of Stanes and his children while they slept is the most barbaric of many such incidents which are not uncommon these days in India. India is a wonderful country and Hinduism a beautiful religion. I lived in India for 40 years and NEVER for a second did I feel discriminated against as a follower of the Catholc faith.JAIHIND!
I agree with some of the readers who say we Hindus are our worst enemies. In 'Hindustan' itself, newspapers and school textbooks call the Mahabharata and Ramayana as mythology or folklore or legend. Whereas they depict the ancient 'history'. Indian history doesnt start with the Indus valley civilisation unlike what our students learn. Finally, Hinduism which is a Vedic religion is a way of life. Ayurveda, Yoga, Astrology and of course the lessons of Bhagvad Gita make it complete and holistic.
I am a hindu but not a fanatic. I just want to remind those who are up against hindus that one can read 100 times a bible or a koran but one cannot never complete in his entire life reading all the hindu books .. if you put those books one top of another you will be needing a ladder to take out a book and you can't make out a bible or a koran lying somewhere in between. What I want to request all is that read as much as possible and then comment or ask the westerners who are working at ISCON etc they are much learned.. thanks
Dear Rajeev Srinivasan, I\'ve read your article on Rediff entitled Endemic Discrimination against Hindus. You blamed that Christianity is all about apartheid, slavery, the Jewish Holocaust, and the burning of women as witches. You are right in pointing out that Christians were guilty of apartheid and slavery, but Christian ministers like Martin Luther King Jr. fought against such evils with Christian ideals and made slavery and discrimination history. Beside, there is nothing in the Bible that supports slavery and segregation. But in Hinduism there are laws to segregate people, for example Manu Smruti. The law of chathurvarna and the doctrine of karma are inherently discriminatory and even to this day dalits are not allowed to Hindu temples in many areas of India, while black people could enter into any Christian church in the United States. Pandit Ramabai, a born Hindu converted to Christianity after contrasting Hinduism\'s treatment of women with the compassion of Christ towards women, which she read about in John chapter 4. You also wrote that Christianity was about burning women as witches. The total number of women burnt in Salem Witch trials was only 19, in contrast to th

Your ideas are those of the ignorant brainwashed masses. Search for "perversion of caste" by Ram Swaroop and you will get a more balanced view. Thanks to people like you, Nowadays I always assume that the average person from the west is extremely ignorant in spite of the information age. You proved me right again!

Paul, YOur point is well taken, but Manu Smriti is not a Hindu text. Manu was an advisor. Very few Hindus know about Manu, or his writings. Actually Manu never knew he was a Hindu ! The word Hindu is foreign to India. All the bad practices you refer to are part of Brahminism. Most of the "Hindus", are not Brahmins. Brahmins are just the most powerful, and the most visible; but they are a minority.
