Horrible
by shas on Dec 20, 2006 08:55 PM  Permalink

This is outrageous behavior by immigration officials at Mumbai. Anyone shuld be given a chance to prove the situation. They can be put on hold and shuld not be deported by next flight. Sad state.

New policy needed for such cases
by sri on Dec 20, 2006 08:55 PM  Permalink

Hi --
Sorry for the experience. Though you have admitted the mistake you have done... Its a blunder. Then if FAXing was a allowable option -- then officers have done mistake not giving you more than 45 mins. Things take time and they should have given you decent time.
Agony, Pain and torture .... when mistake is done by all -- who is to blame. Sometimes such things happen ....
Rather than going with a killing attitude ... I would recommend immigration authorities to have a reasonable policy to handle such rare scenarios.
If they do have and you had every chance of allowing to obtain transit visa or allowing into India based on the FAXed documents . Start a legal battle and we shall support you.

Good work done by the immigration officials
by ajay on Dec 20, 2006 08:54 PM  Permalink

I think the act of indian officials is very appropriate. You cannot forget your paper work and expect them to not act according to rules.

law is law

What the airport authoritis did was definitely inhuman from your perspective, but there is no place for emotions in their tough job. I think bringing up the skin colour is totally unnecessary. Its like during the match fixing scandal, azharrudin saying he is being targetted because he is a minority. Any way it was a lesson learnt the hard way for you !!

Result of irresponsibility
by Saurav on Dec 20, 2006 08:52 PM  Permalink

It seems to be a strange incident happened at Mumbai airport, but if Mumbai immigration officials have done some thing wrong (I personally cant see any thing wrong) the family cant blame them because the fault at their part was unforgivable. I would like to ask the family do you think after staying a long time over USA, if the same thing would happen here you would get a better behavior from USA officials, I dont thing so (I do stay at USA for couple of years). Before telling shame to Indian officials, Indian system etc. friends remember you are reading something which is from one side of the incident and could be biased version of the whole incident. None the less, I couldnt under stand a family with a so called good educational background how could perform such an irresponsible act.

I dont understand why the immigration officials in India behave in a manner that shocks most of the indians. They dont know hook or crook of immigration laws nd chapters and act as smart Alecs. Fit for nothing fellos.

It's your fault
by rvikram on Dec 20, 2006 08:48 PM  Permalink

Bombay immigration did what it was supposed to do. You forget the visa, you pay the price. Plain and simple. Stop whining, learn your lesson and plan better the nest time.

NRI children denied entry
by Vatsala Vivek on Dec 20, 2006 08:47 PM  Permalink

What do the parents think? Forgot visa!! Ha! Next time they will demand that the aircraft should allow them to board without air tickets?Because they forgot???

It is the parents who are to be blamed. If the reporter commits such a big error in his IT projects, he will be fired. No doubt! Why should India show leniency for people who enter without a legal visa?

What annoys me is that the immigration authorities gave transit visa to a foreighner and not to the children who accompanied the parents. Have ONE RULE for all, please! Don't mislead us, NRIS. Slavish mentality of the Indian authorities is something that no true Indian can digest.

Get the facts right
by Rajeev on Dec 20, 2006 08:47 PM  Permalink

I feel very sorry for what the kids have to go through because of the mistake of their parents. Don't you think the parents took certain things in India for granted. I mean would they have travelled to USA without carring the VISAs? And if they would have what do you think would have been the treatment given to them ?

Also if the kid asks what people in India behaved like this the asnwer would be that your mom and dad made a mistake. Visas are their for a reason.
