Whatever happened is right !
by Raj Kiran Singh on Dec 20, 2006 11:02 PM  Permalink

I have no sympathy whatsoever for this individaul because its his fault to have not taken the right documents with him(thats sheer negligence) given the state of Indian administration. I myself am an NRI living in Boston and if I were him, I would have taken all the necessary steps beforehand. All this article/news serves is just a warning to people who are willing to travel to India, thats it.

Why blame?
by Neeta on Dec 20, 2006 10:58 PM  Permalink

I think what the immigration officers did was perfect. just because you are an Indian does not make ur children a citizens of India, and like at any other place you will have to have a valid visa with you when you try to enter india or have an indian passport? The immigration officers at other countries did not bother asking about the kids visas is cos you are not gonna stay in their contry, but dont take India for granted. You have to follow the rules.
Good job Indian immigration....

NRI Children deported
by Seema on Dec 20, 2006 10:58 PM  Permalink

You've hit the nail on the head, in this day and age Indians still revere only the fair-skinned, they continue to bow in spite of being independent for almost 60 years! It's as though being of foreign origin is one's passport to getting polite treatment in India. I've been to Mumbai several times and have noticed that people seem to want to please if you aren't a native. Isn't it sad that it's not important to be courteous to your own and yet go out of your way to be couteous to others. I'm sorry about what your children had to go through and what pains me more is the impression they're going to have about their parents' country of origin.

Bingo Mumbai again
by Ragu on Dec 20, 2006 10:57 PM  Permalink

In Delhi, they discriminate again you if you are dark skinned (south India?). South Indians have a tuff time there.

Mumbai? Do not ask me one official asked me "How long are you going to stay in India?" I raised my eye brows. (I thought I was Indian all these days)

They should fire cleaning guys and ask these guys to clean the airport.

It is called 'Chiken shit'

Atrocious!
by Ravi on Dec 20, 2006 10:53 PM  Permalink

Are we in a country, who have bright culture? Shame on such kind of immigration officials. India has to put down its head on shame. I would be eager to know what action is taken on such kind of barbaric act of an immigration official. NRI's are not respected by India, but India require NRI money for development. How that is possible?

Shame on such immigration officials.

Mumbai immigration deports kids
by Surpris on Dec 20, 2006 10:50 PM  Permalink

One cannot fault the immigrations for not allowing people without vaild visas into the country, and ideally no exceptions should be made. So, with respect to the case of the Indian family with American children, I cannot fault the actions of the immigration officers. But what I fail to understand or comprehend beyond any sense is HOW these officials allowed the French man into the country without valid visa! This is totally discriminatory. An Indian who failed to bring a valid visa into any European country would be given the third degree treatment by the European officials, but yet in India, we give the whites so much freedom and liberty. This is nauseating!

before blaming immigration
by abc_bk2007 on Dec 20, 2006 10:49 PM  Permalink

The concerned parent, should first of all think how in the world, he expected to travel to any other country without valid travel documents. You may say that you have got education from so & so university and working in ga-ga company; but all education and experience of being outside India comes to nothing - since you have not learned 'common sense' of being prepared.

Next part of you is, posting such news report on this site will explain your disgusting attitude that you dont accept/own your mistakes.

You are ready to blame Indian immigration authorities - how in the world did so called respecting educated officials in Logan(boston) airport and paris let your children board when they didn't have valid travel documents. So the mistake of you coupled with the mistakes of ill qualified officials(boston & paris) is taken care by Mumbai immigration officials.

Next thing you mentioned that a random france guy was given transit visa even though he came unprepared like you. Not sure what immigration pact is India having with France and USA. These laws vary upon the country and they are bilateral.

Only thing I support you here is the amount of time(45 min) given for fax docs.

Visa denial
by Raj on Dec 20, 2006 10:46 PM  Permalink

TO all who are making a hue and cry over the fact that the indian

immigartion office granted a transit visa to the french national but

refused it for children of indian parents who are nonetheless america

citizens

The french govt allows a transit visa on arrival for indian nationals

when passing thru france and this is reciprocated by the indian

govt.remember visa on arrival of any kind is a reciprocal arrangement

between two countries.

The usa does not grant visa on arrival even if it is just a transit visa to

indians and so the indian govt does not do the same.Remember

Vijays kids are america nationals no matter what is the nationality of

their parents and the rules that apply to americans shall apply to

them.

all the clowns who are blaming indian officials and shouting racism

and asking that the officers be suspended first need to understand

rules govering visas before making a hue and cry.

Also we only have vijays version regarding the behaviour of

officials.remember a coin always has two sides and we are hearing

only one side of the story.do not judge india , indians and indian

officers in particular merely on this fact.
