I completely agree
by Mo on Dec 21, 2006 01:59 AM  Permalink

I have same experience when i travelled to India. I had worst experience when i landed in mumbai. They sold my connecting flight seat to someone else because my flight was late 20min.i spent 1 hour in the customs. He will not let me go unless i pay him money. He was asking $200 and i dint had somuch cash with me in dollars and he just does not want to listen. I was begging him that we will miss our connecting flight to hyderabad. My daughther and my wife were so tired. I missed my flight and i have to buy new ticket after staying in mumbai for 12 hours.

That day i decided i will never ever in my life travel to India via mumbai. i am willing to spend more money for my tickets than going to mumbai. very bad people.

mumbai immigration, enquiry needed
by Tri on Dec 21, 2006 01:53 AM  Permalink

There is a lot of hue and cry without knowing the complete facts about the incident. I have also worked at Airport. There must be some valid reasons with immigration authority to deny temparory visa to them. I think this was the best case of granting temporary visa to kids with charging proper fees, but what went wrong is really the matter of enquiry and the guilty surely be punished.

As far as granting trasit visa to French National is concerned there would have some valid reasons for that also. For example trasit visa is given to person who has fixed onward departure from some other Airport within India within next 24 to 48 hours.

thanks

Tri

Pinch of Salt
by Som Sowmyan on Dec 21, 2006 01:51 AM  Permalink

I would definitely take it with a pinch of Salt. I was in Mumbai Immigration in Nov 06 with similar status. Green Card + 2 children (US passports) and had all the paperwork. I must definitely say that the attitude of Immigration guys have been better every time i come to India though it is to be said that these guys are a little rough especially if you come from the West where you have a pleasant "face" value. But overall ok.

Now everyone of us must understand one thing. What happens if someone loses his passport/Green card on the flight. Given the numerous security checks that happen between flights , at transit points it is possible you could miss one of these especially if a group is travelling with children.

It is here that these Immigration guys need to use their Grey matter or atleast the collective Grey matter. I have a story of someone who had an expired visa come in to US and after hearing their story they gave them a Visa for 3 days holding back their passport till they resolve the issues. The Immigrtaion guys called up the local appointments to validate and took that decison. Because of empowerment these guys can do it.One needs to use judgement for these. C'mmon.

What's wrong?
by Barun Chowdhury on Dec 21, 2006 01:49 AM  Permalink

Vijay/Vaishali,

You are 9 years in US and forgot to take Visas of your children while traveling!! What did you think? Your children can do anything as they were born on USA, having US passports. The immigration officers have done their job. You guys are following the rules strictly at USA and expect Indian immigration officers will break the rules for your stupidness. Forget about India. Your childrens are US citizen. You will be so within couple of years. Live happily at your dream land.

Would you forget your Green Card when entering USA?
by Soumyaroop Bhattacharya on Dec 21, 2006 01:49 AM  Permalink

Mr. & Mrs. Prabhu,
You get my sympathy for suffering this ordeal, but I would also appreciate the fact that Immigration officials were tough & they were right. Your children are US citizens not, Indian and they have to be treated the same way as any other foreigner. Dude, you are crying so much becoz you were entering India where you think 'Sab Chalta Hai'. I bet if you reach Logan airport in Boston & tell them you forgot your Green card, they wont even give you 45 minutes. You might even land in jail or be deported.
You are human but how can you forget important document as Visa.

Why action ??/
by Tiger on Dec 21, 2006 01:48 AM  Permalink

After making a mistake from your side ,you want reembursement ? Did you expect the Mumbai Immigration to dance in ghaghra cholis just because you are an NRI with American kids.

Is that Frienchman your childhood friend?

How did you know that he has forgot the Visa?Did he discuss with you in flight or did he faxed you ?Pls do not try to fool us becuase nobody tells that he /she has forgotten VISA ?Come on,did you tell anyone that you forgot the VISA?Its only after you met the Immigration ,you know that you told that forgot the VISA?

Or is it,that in order to gain symapthy you are adding masala to your article ?Yes I am talking abt the Frenchman episode.

No need to be ashamed of being an Indian because YOU DONT DESERVE TO BE AN INDIAN "

Why are the you planning to come to Ind again if you are ashamed to be an INDIAN?Can you explain ?

If you are so ashamed of being an INDIAN,Never come back ......People like you are spoiling the image of INDIA.

Here people like you take lots of advantage from India and atlast give this statement and I guess you would go for US citizenship because you got the reason now.

First respect the law ....
Accept your mistake.

No surprise!.
by srkpriv on Dec 21, 2006 01:47 AM  Permalink

This kinda of behaviour should not be tolerated at all. If a french person who has no connection to india can get a transit visa then people of indian origin must definitely be give the same. This is the kinda of behaviour that needs to be curtailed in the beginning itself.

The government should bring in legislation to curb this kinda of preferential treatment or misbehvarious or giving visas in a whim or fancy.

We should have zero tolerance policy against these kinda behaviour. We should eliminate by terminating their services or suspending them from job or something every all people who would indulge in such behaviour and teach them a less. Even thinking less of any and all indian by us by others should not be tolerated.

We should first remove the enemy within before attempting to do so outside.
