Pinch of Salt
by Som Sowmyan on Dec 21, 2006 01:51 AM

I would definitely take it with a pinch of Salt. I was in Mumbai Immigration in Nov 06 with similar status. Green Card + 2 children (US passports) and had all the paperwork. I must definitely say that the attitude of Immigration guys have been better every time i come to India though it is to be said that these guys are a little rough especially if you come from the West where you have a pleasant "face" value. But overall ok.

Now everyone of us must understand one thing. What happens if someone loses his passport/Green card on the flight. Given the numerous security checks that happen between flights , at transit points it is possible you could miss one of these especially if a group is travelling with children.

It is here that these Immigration guys need to use their Grey matter or atleast the collective Grey matter. I have a story of someone who had an expired visa come in to US and after hearing their story they gave them a Visa for 3 days holding back their passport till they resolve the issues. The Immigrtaion guys called up the local appointments to validate and took that decison. Because of empowerment these guys can do it.One needs to use judgement for these. C'mmon.
