COMPARE -READ SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY
by Som on Dec 22, 2006 04:25 AM  Permalink

IN USA

An american citizen getting to Immigration with lost documentation for him and Kids. Why should he be deported. It is his country. US immigration officials will go that extra mile to make sure he is all taken care of.

Now if an Indian/Other Nationality arrives, they tend to help but eventually that person is not his baby.

Look at what India gives. Two kids who have US Passports. Note that these kids could be potential Indian Citizens. At Age 18 when they decide which country citizenship they need and can switch their passports.

Now if you give those Kids this treatment how could you possibly even expect them to consider Indian Citizenship. They would see that between the two countries the country that gives its citizens self respect and esteem would be preferred.

What a tragic experience for a 7 yr old and 3 year old.

Unfortunately the problem is the Rest of the Indians think America is a land of Milk and Honey and therefore tend to see that people living there are better off than themselves. It is true to a limited extent. What you dont see is how difficult living in US is in terms of Having a secure Job, different climatic conditions etc..

Wakeup PLEASE

Agreed, But they got what they deserve
by Aman Dayal on Dec 22, 2006 03:18 AM  Permalink

Agreed that they were kids ,and probably its an exception

But Indians remain, Indians cant stop complaining about their country.

What about national security was that taken into account.

Coming from the US, how dumb can someone be not to get a visa.

We complain when we arent strict with our national security, but if it comes to us we want all the Indian luxury pleasure.

Wake up indians, we need to be more alert, in what we do. I am sure they wouldnt have minded if they were stopped in US and were told to go back.

Indians have awoken, and the world should know.

Sorry kids, but ur parents country is developing faster than they thought it would

Need to change Visa and White (non-Indian by heart) Officer at Mumbai
by Vidya on Dec 22, 2006 02:33 AM  Permalink

I can imagine how bad you must have felt. The French officer should be suspended for inhuman behavior and more likely racist to blame.

We need raise voice agianst these anti Indian behavior of other nations visa officers who force their staff to behave inhuman.

Hope you come back and find it better next time. Wish you best wishes. Karmas either bad or good come backs, so our victory is sure.

Jai Hind,

Parent's Fault
by baxish on Dec 22, 2006 12:59 AM  Permalink

This is clearly parent's carelessness. We would have got the same treatment( or may be worst) in US if we would have done this thing being an Indian national arriving in US without proper papers .

arrogance
by L on Dec 22, 2006 12:19 AM  Permalink

Vijay and Vaishali,

A human can definitely make mistakes but mistakes have consequences - unfortunately yours was a BIG mistake.
You both husband and wife are born and brought up in India and how easily you forgot the rules of your own country.

You and your wife took your Indian passports and GCs with you. Took your kids' US passports - so you took everything that is needed to get BACK into USA - but you forgot how US citizens enter into a foreign country. How convinient?

Is this arrogance or ignorance on your part? And you expect the immigration offcials to show sympathy for your kids? They just did their duty maybe overzealously but YOU are completely to blame.

The frenchman atleast gets the benefit of doubt coming into India for 1st time. But a person who has lived in that country for 25-30 yrs can forget so easily abt visa? Did you go to US w/o visa and expect the US immigration officials to let you in?

STOP blaming the officials - YOU and your wife are completely at fault - please explain your kids that you made a HUGE mistake and had to face the consequence of that. Its ur responsibility to carry all papers and not of airline to verify - Grow up!

Re: Mumbai immigration deports NRI children
by Rupali on Dec 22, 2006 12:12 AM  Permalink

This is rather a funny story. I wonder, why rediff has given such a big article about this, and more surprisingly, the article seems to convey the message about the "poor" family and very cruel Indian immigration officer!

The couple is in Boston for 9 years & are IT professionals, and still they are doing such a big mistake. They should be happy that at least they were given some time for the documents to be faxed. What would they have done if it had been a country like US or UK?

Inspite of all the mistakes, they are making the issue out of this in the name of kids. Yeah, I really feel sad for the kids, that they got such parents. And, what do they mean by "feeling ashamed to call theirself Indians"? They should be banned forever to enter the country for making such statements.

This act is justified
by Akshay on Dec 22, 2006 12:01 AM  Permalink

I live in Unites States myself but i think this is completly justified.

Parents did not carry all the needed documents to enter india. We people living here in america /or proper americans have the tendency to take things for granted.

I bet if the same thing had happned to someone entering united states, in India, people would have praised about how strict the US laws are and how great the system is and how difficult it is not to for you to not follow rules. america is a great country.

World should know India matters and India can not be taken for granted!!!

NRI kids deported
by KV1999 on Dec 21, 2006 11:59 PM  Permalink

Frankly, it appears that the immigration officials could have waited for a few hours before deporting the children. They did not wait. I think this is either the parents refused to bribe or threatened the officials naming some central minister ... in any case, the customs officials should not have done what they did and I hope GOD will make them pay for it ... the hard way ...

Passion rather than logic is driving your post . Get the word "jerk" and related statement outta there and you will do yourself a favour in getting considered by general public as mature enough to even comment on such issues.

I'm not justifying parents' attitude or criticizing steps taken by officials. But the way people comment on such public forums leaves much to be desired!
