In the latest case of grounding the Northwest Flight,it would be apt if one could read the article provided at this link and come to conclusions. http://in.rediff.com/news/2006/aug/25plane1.htm
I do believe that in the present scenario, US and Eueopean authorities have become much more concious in order to prevent any mishap. At times it does create nuisance to passengers and to Asian passengers to a greater extent.
However I faced a racist attack without any security issue at Heathrow in June this year. Just before i was about to board flight, a female security officer looked at my laptop and commented that at times they see such people carrying laptops about whom they cannot even dream off possessing one.
this was the kind of treatment that I received when after my 2 yrs of stay in UK i was returning back, finishing off my studies.

Are passengers racially profiled

Thanks to reader Harsha Shettigar for pointing out the link to a true account of what happened. Unfortunately we Indians have to face the Karma of our neighbours and Hindus have to face the Karma of proximity to Muslims.
After reading the account put out by Rediff, and I am really thankful for their unbiased coverage, it is obvious that the incident occurred due to misbehaviour rather than 'racial profiling'. It is time we realised that we are subject to rules prescribed in the interests of air safety, and the quicker we get rid of the bee in our collective bonnet the better. We always have the choice of not travelling to or not working in a country that is not to our liking. Many of the readers are working in the US and unhappy about being subjected to searches or other forms of perceived discrimination. They would do well to read a recent survey that says that India provides the best wages to senior execs on a Purchasing Power Parity basis. So the choice is to stay in the US with clean roads and clean air and racial profiling or come to a place without the aforesaid facilities and Chalta Hai. And as for the Muslims of the world, tough luck! Collective Karma you know!
I think due to recent terrorist attacks, its logical for any country to scrutinize people for their security purpose, but one should not be profile based on their races.
Also, the episode of north west plane that was turned back to amsterdam would'nt have arised had the passengers behaved normally onboard. They should have listened to the stewards instructions and it would have prevented inconvienience for themselves as well as other passengers.
As it is Jogeshwari is already famous for all bad things and on top of that we have got one more label attached to it.
For whatever reason the detained people have been flying, they should have behaved normally onboard. Why do we want to blame others when we know it was our own mistake.
Complete bunk! I dont think any racism is involved in this. The pigheads dont know our language. Maybe if they are so concerned about what we talk, they should begin learning our languages or just keep their paranoid suspicion under control. I think it's a language thing. Racism is highly unlikely.
The first paragraph itself says it all.Using cellphone, moving on the plane without care and not putting seat belts on.I think that with a heightened state of security,if there are couple of rebels, who feel that they should not comply witht the security procedures, what options do the staff onboard have??It is not question of a racial bias but a case of uncontrolled nuisance in the times of hightened secuirty risks.
Going through the article and as per my knoledge it would be wrong to say passengers are racilly classified. It is the result of various terriost attacks faced by western countrier .The stringent saftey precautions that are recently undergone are only the after effects of what is seen by the world . But the saftey operations should not go to the extent so that it gives a negetive feeling.Believing in the security system is of primal importace for all of us

yes, scissors are prohibited, you should try guns. see our security does not play with small things. in mumbai in the name of security they dont allow you to go back and see your family or kids and they wont ofcourse have enough phones to let them know so they can go home. racial profiling happens from state to state, ever worked in delhi as a non-delhi-ite? in chennai as a non-madrasi, in up/bihar as anything? in bengal as a non-bong? we only strip each other or pat down, we are not bothered so much about bombs as we are about caste/creed.
the situation at Mumbai is worse. the security check is not all that great. i had 2 scissors once, of which only 1 was removed. at singapore, they detected and removed the other one.
