We Asians have to bear all these detentions and friskings because all the major crimes which threaten the national secutiry and integrity are committed by Asians. Can we swear that we are innocent? This is a fact all of to be ashamed of.Western countries welcomed lakhs of Asians into their countries. We find many Asians occupying very good positions. Why did not this word racial discrimination come into picture at that time?
These are the same western countries which accused of racial bias ,which elected Indians and other Asians as their governors , mayors , senators.
It is not fair to use your ethnicity to support yourself when things are not in your favour.Western countries are far better in treating Asians. How many Americans are living without fear in India or Pakistan ? as compared to the number of Indians or Pakistanis in America.Western countries liberality is being taken for a ride. Are not they liberal to allow us into their territories even after WTC attack? They have every ritght to protect their country. The one and only god is observing all these.
I hope he will identify the real culprits and punish them.
The way you are looking at racial profiling is obtuse!! Racial profiling like most other things is a two way street. Indians can racially profile Westerners with the same fervor as Westerners do. The trouble is India/Indians are too busy bickering amongst themselves to be a united group. Fact is Northwest is an American airline and its plane is American airspace subject to American laws. Turn out most Indians either don't care about this fact or chose to ignore it. The reason is partly also because there isn't a good choice of an Indian carrier - which Indian carrier are they going to use - the piece of crap usually referred to as Air India ? And so it does become a one-way street. If India had its own fleet of carriers and another such incident happened on an Indian carrier where some Americans were detained you can be rest assured that after the brouhaha died down in the American press there would be no detention of Indians aboard any American flight for a long while! But no - how can that happen - we as Indians are too busy fighting amongst ourselves - do we disinvest/privatise Air India - do we not? How many decision reversals in the past 10 years on this ???
there is definite racial bias among western people with regards to asians. This is not restricted to security personell, even co-passengers raise a alarm when they see unfamiliar faces or languages.
This is like airline apartheid !!! The objective is to intimidate people of other cultures and dissuade them from travelling. Terrorists blowing up planes account for 0.0001 % of deaths to the westerners. There are far greater dangers
This happened when I was travelling to USA from India via London. From Chennai to India, the check in was as usual.
Then I had to take a transit flight from Heathrow airport. During transition, the checking procedures were normal as for the fellow passengers. when I completed my baggage checking and was heading to take the flight,I was asked to come aside near the gate and once again my cabin baggage was checked. I felt humilated as I was the only person called from the group and there were no asians, everyone was white.
Does that mean all asians are terrorists? Almos the same repeated in US @ Chicago airport.
Absolutely 'NO'! Based on todays situation on threats, being an educated passenger, we should behave properly. Because, we are among hundreds of passengers, have the social responsibility to reduce the tension and support for safe and secure travel.
Please cooperative with airline staff for our security, they are there for our safe travel.
The pilot and the management of the flight has done right job and action taken by them indeed very much correct,Under the circumstances the travellers are suposed to be very much deceplain but unfortunately these muslim brothers of Mumbai action and activity were in doubt in the largest interest and safty of life and property ,congratulations to the timely action when doubt arrised. What indeciplain are our young particularly Mumbai chaps muslim community should be more humble and obedient to rules and regulations as per guidline.Good job done.Ramesh Nayak
I do not see any bias. What I can see is that we asians, have forgotten how to behave in public places. Concern of other peoples. This become more important considering the terror public is facing from few bad elements of the society. So one shoul learn to behave properly. I personally do not see anything wrong done by security agency. One should respect the authority. For information I am asian and not from security agency. IT Person who travel many times through air.
I think the recent incident of Dutch airlines has got nothing to do with race. The behavior of the passengers was suspicious. With a history of sad incidents such as 9/11 behind, how can the crew ignore such behavior? If you are in plane and see a group of people ignoring the crew instructions, passing mobile phones among them, going to toilet while they were asked not to do so while taking off, and moving around in the plane?
If it were before 911 even then they would have faced the treatment from the air marshalls but with the recent history the reaction was more serious.
We need to accept that we belong to a zone from where some people made atrocities that too by exploiting the generocity of a country that allowed education, earning for a huge number of people from other countries. We need to accept extra security measures taken against the asean faces. At one point of time, we were all respected as people from holy land. We enjoyed that because of good works from our forefathers.
We need to suffer now, because of the bad work from some of our brothers.
In these days of tightened airport security, even the passengers have to be more responsible. When it is an international safety regulation to switch off the cellphones when inside a flight, I have seen many just using the silent mode while on flight, or switching them on as soon as the flight starts its descent. If you ask them to switch it off, they look at you as if you are some goody-two-shoe pain-in-the-whatever. In this case, perhaps such an extreme measure was not warranted - but I don't put the blame on the airlines. If the passengers don't cooperate - especially when everyone is paranoid about air travels, something has to be done. A BA flight was diverted a few months back because one of the passengers was quite drunk, and became unruly to the air stewardesses. It was not even a safety issue. Yes...there is, and would be, obviously a racial bias - what are you going to do? Are you going to stop traveling to US and other countries? Oh no...the US of A is the land of opportunities - isn't it?
