Vande Mataram
by Sudhir on Aug 24, 2006 03:12 PM  Permalink

Vande Mataram is the national song of India. The song was composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in a highly Sanskritized form of the Bengali language and first appeared in his book Anandamatha."Vande Mataram" was the national cry for freedom from British oppression during the freedom movement.
I still remember the song being played in Doordarshan during the morning. It generated the same amount of calmness to a wearied soul as much it instills the passion for the motherland to a patriot. Just sing it for the sake of singing to one of the best poetry ever composed. It never meant to hurt the feelings of any community or religion, but bound the whole country together in a strand of pride and love towards one's country.Today's politicians have made a mockery of every thing by pulling them into controversies. It's time the young people of the country give the emblems of our country its due and not let power hungry, caste driven, criminal politicians ruin our country. Let us respect the faith of everyone in the country and let us stand shoulder to shoulder irrespective of caste, creed, faith for the land that has given us everything.

VANDE MATARAM

This hundred year old song in fact energised thousands of freedom fighters in their fight against British. It gave spirit to the freedom fighters and it describes the pride of our country as well. So why should we curse this song which has its own heritage and tradition... Suddenly rising against Vande Mataram may help the protestors for publicity but it will have no other benefits. Instead of worrying on such silly things, let us concentrate on the effective and productive means to make our nation strong and a super power among all nations.

your views are matured and simple. India needs such persons. This builds the inner strength of the nation. More than illeteracy, it the narrow mindedness that one should avoid when it comes to respecting the mother land. It is unfortunate that there are humans who do not know what a mother is, leave alone religion.

Every moment - Vande Mataram, Vande... Mataram.

It is very sad that singing `Vande Mataram' is again in the midst of controversy.

Decades ago, we sang `Akhilanda Mandalam' (a rough transalation of Vande Materam in Malayalam) every morning and Jana Gana Mana every evening in our school. In primary school, not even knowing the full meaning of words, I used to feel a special elation while singing these. Our teachers taught us young kids some history; some historical stories too. Decades later, still I love listening to the song/anthem, love humming them, and feel elated.

The opposition to 'Vande Mataram' comes from illiteracy and narrow mindedness. Where people do need a physical act to represent an emotion, we can only pity on them. `Vande' is not the physical action of bowing one's head or joining palms in salute; `Vande' is the emotional level of paying respect.

Dont allow the West Asian rudeness rule over the Indian emotions. singing Vande Mataram should be made mandatory in Schools at all costs. It is not disrespect to your God; it has got nothing to do with your god of belief. It is just a question of loving your mother.

Saluting the mother nation
by Anand on Aug 24, 2006 03:10 PM  Permalink

I do not understand why there is an uproarious opposition to singing this song. To me, it means, saluting the mother-nation mentioning the glory of the greeneries, the fertility, flowery gardens and the endless blessings she has showered upon us. The moot question is - DO WE RESPECT OUR MOTHER? YES. Then nothing wrong to sing her glory and salute her. We regard mother who sacrifices her life and soul for her child. Being children of the nation, it should be our bounden duty to pay respect to her.

It is an emblem of patriotism
by P.A. on Aug 24, 2006 03:08 PM  Permalink

Our national song is made to ignite the patriotism among the coutry men which is something we don't find very common now, so I really support the decision to make it a compulsory recitation in schools.
The kids are the future of the country & it is our responsibility to pass on good vibes of patriotism to them.
The guys opposing the decision should come out of their political cover & realize the

It really feels great when one sings the song 'Vande Mataram'. The great song written by Sri Bankimchandra Chatterjee in his epic 'Anand Mutt' inspired lakhs of people during the freedom struggle of India. It was proclaimed as 'National Song' and accorded the status equal to that of our 'National Anthem'. It is a privilege to sing the song and every Indian should feel proud to do so.

What Vande Mataram means to you ?
by Jagdish on Aug 24, 2006 03:07 PM  Permalink

Everything , the beauty of this country . The love for this nation and above all the gratitude i have for this lovely nation on earth. I am proud to be an INDIAN and will be for FOREVER.

HINDUISM,BUDDHISM,JAINISM or SIKHISM teaches and practises the love for one's mother and motherland and not sure of other religions which does not have roots in INDIA has it. Since they do not have roots in our land of beauty , they are always against it.

Look at our independence, one religion supported the British and other for the partition of India,to create Pakistan. So it is obvious why they are against it.

So let all unite against the evil and wicked forces to make this country of beauty a land of peace.

JAI HIND

This song gave courage and inspiration to all Hindus,Muslims, sikhs and Isaai's before independence and has a special meaning and respect to all those who respect their previous generations.

i think everybody should sing this not forcefully but through their inner soul.I dont understand why few people always condemn this as all knows we fighted the "British Empire" together with all this slogans like Vande Mataram,Jai Hind and Inquilab Zindabad....Dont let Politicians gain any profit out of this issue and say........Vande Mataram.........Jai Hind.

If any resident of India feels that he or she is being forced to sing Vande Mataram then it is a matter of shame for all of us.. These people do not deserve to be called Indians
Our National Anthem, Song , Flag , Emblem etc. are symbols of our pride in our nation. Instead of willingly accepting these if we have to rake a contreversy on this it is extremly sad and shamefull.

It is our national song. It speaks about the beauty and glory of our mother land and its people. I think singing this song is a part of discipline towards our nation and a nation can build only the power of her people who are disciplined and united. We everybody must sing it without making any controversy over it.
