dance Bars in mumbai
by kavita on Apr 15, 2006 12:44 PM  Permalink

In my opinion lifting ban was not at all a good decision. No girl can be happy with a profession where she is being treated as a commodity. Its high time that our govt. takes stern steps to save poor girls from entering such cheap profession

Reality check for all those who oppose the ban
by Vasan Thatai on Apr 15, 2006 12:26 PM  Permalink

There are several cases wherein the civil society has lost much for a smaller gain like employment.
1) Please check how many people gain and how many people lose?
Gainers : Only unscrupulous businessmen (hoteliers) and few ladies.
Losers: Several students, office goers, bread earners.

2)Please check the total losses suffered by the individuals? Don't go by the state exchequer or those few employed in dance bars?
I am from Mumbai. I know atleast five persons of my locality who have lost their savings, three students who lost their direction towards life by chasing the ladies in bars. 02 Medical Representatives not attending to the field .. giving false calls...ultimately losing jobs.

One can very well understand that morality is left to individuals. However the state also needs to contribute in maintaining it.

Those who oppose the ban ..whether they know what type of things happen here, how do they cheat the customers, how they extort the money, how the law enforcers support them in case of dispute? What type of calls they receive from girls, at odd hours?
what are its impact on levels of corruption? What are its impact on levels of divorce? on gambling? Many other?

No. Dance Bars Cannot Be Banned
by Surekha tenneti Venugopal on Apr 15, 2006 06:46 AM  Permalink

No. Dance Bars cannot be banned.
It is a human being's option whether he/she wants to go to a dance bar or not.
If open soliciting for prostitution is seen in any of such bars, the police can strike down on that particular place, as soliciting for prostitution is illegal.
But mere dancing in an eating place, no matter how sexy it may be, cannot really be banned.
Much, much more harmful than a dance bar is TV serials showing the ugliest sides of human nature- influencing millions of people in their homes on the worst kinds of human behaviour. Then why is TV not banned ?
Liquor, gambling, betting are far worse crimes than getting a bit turned on by a dance-bar performer.
So, what all are going to be banned ?
An affectionate, balanced home, education and optimum physical and mental health are the answers to the so-called evils of dance bars, not banning.

by nitinkumar on Apr 14, 2006 09:26 PM  Permalink

As per govt five star hotels dance bars allowed,Rich

Bar girls are not good, they deceive took money,
looting people but any woman who is money minded,
ambitious can do such thing.
You have to pay the cost for ur hobby or pleasure
and that is upto person to person.
Going in dance bars is not wrong and as management
consultant from last 10 years to increase confidence,to remove stress i recommend youngsters to
vist dance bars, enjoy ur life, make expence not more than 12% of ur gross income/month.

should be allowed
by akram farooqui on Apr 14, 2006 04:48 PM  Permalink

The dance bar's should be allowed...coz the reason cited by the mumbai govt that it disrespects the woman is totally wrong...or there not public performances in which woman dance???then y target only bars...one can see much more vulgarity on tv and in films the govt should if serious ban these first...the bar girls are poor and this is the only source for them....can the govt provide jobs to them?i think bar are comman feature in every country and and attracts lots of tourist and generated lots of revenue too...and if the govt wants to promote tourism then they should allow dance bars.

DANCE BAR
by anirudha on Apr 14, 2006 03:12 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Are we matured? does all the bar owners are honest to prohibit the entry of teenagers to the dance bars, this is not only the dance bar culture which spoils the society, it really starts from film industry they glorify the image of all the so-called dons.
Not only dance bars should be banned but media should be held accountable for glorifying the mafia culture

should dance bars be allowed
by kJ on Apr 14, 2006 02:00 PM  Permalink

It's realy a mistake to justify the existence of these dance bars by saying that these girls are involved with bars for their livelihood or due to the other familial responsibilities. There are so many labourers and workers who do hard in order to run their kitchen , that means they shud also move to some malice modes of earning viz. robbery , threatening, kindnapping, pickpocketing etc. as they also need to manage their food and shelter .

As family is the unit of society, we cann't maintain the status of the one on the stake of other.

As far as earning of these girls is concerned , there could be so many options if our politicians and Govt. desires and could think beyond thier own interest .

But these options are for the girls who are dragged to this business and unwillingly associated and donot wish to continue with this.

Nothing can be said for the girls who are voluntary
bar girls and believe in high income in less efforts.
they can be treated like other professionals and don't deserve any sympathy, aid or support.
