Law need to change for Multi racial society
by Bala on Apr 11, 2006 03:53 PM  Permalink

Like in Singapore there is law which clearly mentions that in one apartment there cannot be all people belonging to same race/religion.

There has to be mix races.

Even law is in force for re-sale of flat not limited to first time selling.

This type of law can curb problem reported.

I am not sure it will solve completely but surely reduce a lot.

Even in Singapore there was lot of Public anger on this law but Government explain peacefully pros and cons of this. People were angry because they cannot sell. But Pros were good and greater than cons as there wonn't Racial/Religious clashes as children of all racial mix in one apartment and so will elders later and create harmonius climate.

Basically people from any race/religion are good but problem starts with Politics and end to common man.

Regards,

Misuse of religion
by jayanti nnc on Apr 11, 2006 03:52 PM  Permalink

To the persons talking about Muslims and Islam: I am a Hindu but I know that the basic teachings of Islam, like all religions, are about good values. All religions are for good - but they all have at some point in

time been corrupted by negative messages like sati, child marriage etc. in our religion. That does not mean we can randomly blame the religion or all its followers. The worst mistake possible is to charcterize all people of a particular religion as the same. The history and culture of India are full of people of all religions who have made it great. Kings like Akbar

and TipuSultan who regarded all religions as equal long before the concept

of secularism was known - great saints like Kabir, GuruNanak and SaiBaba who worked for religious unity . There were countless Muslims among the freedom fighters of this country. And countless Muslims in the armed forces who keep us safe today. They work and live just like us. India is nolonger a country that can or should be - separated into religions. THats just wrong. Your view of Muslims is implanted in our mind by selfish politicians Don't fall a prey to this. Religion is our way to communicatewith God Dont allow it to be misused

RE: Why I won't live among Hindus
by Aamod Gokhale on Apr 11, 2006 03:49 PM  Permalink

This mindset, this discrimination is shocking and shameful. I think everyone who has been at the receiving end, been discriminated against, should come out and name the people involved. If we don't feel outrage, then we don't deserve the freedom, we don't deserve the democracy and we fully deserve the criminal and corrupt poiticians and administration that rule us. It is not the politicians but the middle class that is letting down the society, creating divisions, and paying lip service to patriotism, but could not care less if riots occur in a neighbouring locality. It is disgusting that the author is denied a house in a colony on religious basis. Will somebody explain to me what is constitutional meaning in my country of "Rule of Law"? I seem to have misunderstood. I feel ashamed at the religious discrimination in the city I grew up in, the city i love. We need to weed these elements and destroy them. There is no place for discrimination, particularly based on religion, caste, class, and sex, in a civilized society - if we claim to be one.

Living together secularly
by S.Hariharan on Apr 11, 2006 03:48 PM  Permalink

It is true that people like to stay in a home of their liking. Why we call a "Fish Market". In olden days and in villages people with similar habits try to locate in one place. In the South you would have heard of Agraharams where in those days even some of the vegetables like Onion, Potato, Asaphoitida were not used. Progress should not be equvated with living habits. There are certain values in life as a folk. Wearing shoes are permitted in Churches, But it is not permitted in Temples and I think in Mosques. I think Muslims have to wash their hands and feet before entering their prayer hall. Hindus were taking bath in the tank adjacent to the temble before entering the temple. You can find this segregatory behaviour throughout the world. By the look of a location people are able to understand that this is a Muslim Locality or otherwise. Because some people eat fish, or meat or pork that does not mean the others should like. Otherwise go to the extreme level of eating dog-meat compulsory for every Indian Citizen.

Why I won't live among Hindus
by Aanand on Apr 11, 2006 03:46 PM  Permalink

Towards the end of the article the writer asks a question? Why ask the muslims to come to main stream when you are not allowing them to? The writer should do some reasearch as to why such a behavior exists. The answers are all there. At least befor 1994 he was living in a Hindu locality. How many Hindus does he know lived in a Muslim society before that period? And what was their state if they were living in a muslim society. The distrust in Hindus towards Muslims is not unfounded. Why does the writer not question as to why the distrust exists. Finally I think this writer is very shallow in his thinking.
