India. Pak dialogue
by Samir on Oct 21, 2005 12:51 PM  Permalink

I wonder why no Indian leader or media talks about POK ever. Beginning from Nehru we have silently given away a part of Kashmir to ...

And now on the world maps, POK is shown as part of pakistan.

What our leaders are doing?
Why they are not doing anything to take back POK ?

What our media it doing? Why we bacame helpless and just giving answers to questions raised by Pakistani Media? Why our media not raising any Questions to pakistan ?

This is the right oppertunity to take a stand over pakistan. And raise questions on pakistan and their support to terrorism.

India. Pak dialogue

I wonder why no Indian leader or media talks about POK ever. Beginning from Nehru we have silently given away a part of Kashmir to Pakistan on a platter.By default the only issue is now India occupied Kashmir according to Pak leaders and Pak media.Had we aggressively demanded Pak to vacate POK from 1947 there would havebeen an Indian case for Kashmir. Is it because we are too naive or too meek that we are even afraid to talk aboit what is legimately ours.Indians have very poor leaders from Nehru onwards. Our media is the same.

terrorism by Pak sets the agenda
by V Krishna on Oct 01, 2005 10:48 AM  Permalink

Pakistan is trying to destroy and destabilise. In Pakistan there is a lot of animosity between Punjabis, Sindhis, Kashmiris, and Baluchis, Moharajis. Punajabis are in control of the military.
Moharajis control Sindh. In sort Pakistan is bit like what Yugoslavia was like. It is easy to lie, murder, and destabilise. Indias aims are the opposite to stabilise, to develop, these things are harder to do. India needs to further integrate Kashmir and abolish its special status. In time lies and violence from Pakistan will be defeated.

Verifying commitment
by N J Ramesh on Sep 29, 2005 11:47 PM  Permalink

Our stated goal is to create a stable relationship framework, preferably within SAARC, to insulate the subcontinent from subjection to great power priorities. This probably can be seen as the common agenda. Pakistan, rightly may perceive this as a hidden agenda for exclusive domination by India! If we do not have a common goal how can there be real meeting of the hearts and minds?

However, the present realities are different. India is a real independent state. Pakistan because of her size, history, and propensity of her rulers to deploy what they call as 'strategic location' for the interest of great powers; plus the absence of 100% democracy is not in the same league. The rulers there are likely to undergo severe coping stresses, both internal and external which they can not always ward off. It is debatable whether responding to their coping needs is to be seen as permitting Pakistan to set agendas. May be there is a way to determine the commitment to the common agenda. May there is ways to proceed which keep the options open.

Why not India set the agenda?
by AJ on Sep 29, 2005 07:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This article reflects the same old story of Indian chaotic reactions to Pakistan's well planned moves. One wonders where are our strategy-planners!!! Why we never have the lead in putting tough questions to Pakistan? Why don't we put the ball in Pakistan's court by...

1. Asking about the troubles in so called 'Azad Kashmir'
2. Planning and executing mini-Kargil like adventures
3. Fomenting trouble in their cities of importance
4. Refusing to talk 'Peace' untill status of POK is also included in the discussions

In International arena today, it pays to shed your inhibitions to act tough and smart to gain an upper hand...always.

And if our South Block mandarins can't do that, why not hire professionals from premier organisations / institutes to try their hands.

let not pakistan set the agenda
by ravishankar on Sep 28, 2005 01:45 PM  Permalink

the root of all our problems in dealing with pakistan arises due to the shortsightedness of our bureacrats who takes all the important decisions and there is no place for independent political / security analysts. the response of our government is always one of reaction as the bureacrats are more pre-occupied with their position and power and does not have strategic thinking ability

Let Pakistan not set the agenda

Mr.Braham Chalani is absolutely right. It is most unfortunate that in India, for thousands of years, barring Chankya, Sardar Patel,Lal Bahadur Shashtri and Indira Gandhi, our leaders always neglect the interests of our country.
General Musharraf is a very hard core Jihadi and he is all the time exhorting Pakistanis to be hard core Jihadis by keep on demanding with full force and non-stop haughtyness whatever they want to grab.
Our leaders are more keen to show that they are nice soft persons and they feel no shame in compromising India's rightful interests.
Look at the craftiness of Pakistan that they dare demand withdrawal of Indian troops from Indian territory and our leaders just act timid and in a cowardly manner. They should be asking Pakistan to withdraw troops from all POK and hand over the listed criminals who have commited terrorism against India.
Something is seriously wrong with our leaders.Today Pakistan is having more than 28% of land area of India and is thus in possession of double the land area per person than in India.Pakistan just keeps on grabbing teritory of India. India has more Muslims than Pakistan then why let Pakistan talk Kashmir at all.

Weak Diplomacy
by shashir on Sep 28, 2005 02:28 AM  Permalink

I share the concern expressed by the author. Its very disturbing to observe that slowly india has lost initiative and is playing a catch up game to pakistan's demands . From 2002 till 2004 india was dictating the terms as it was pakistan which was desperate to start the dialogue. After that slowley and steadily india dropped all its demand like 1. Not deal with a Dictator 2. Issue of POK.
Its a mistake to trust the current establishment accorss the border. And now Pakistan has started dictating how and where we should deploy forces within our border.
Disturbing thing is there has not been any response from indian goverment to this alleged interference in india's internal affair and our PM and FM has accepted a visit to Pakistan.
My basic question is why current indian goverment allowing Pakistan to dicatate terms when we are in a position of strength in all areas ? Its a clear show of weakness in people's mind.

We need some leaders who have bone.

Let Pakistan not set the agenda.
by H.S.Gopala Krishna Murthy on Sep 27, 2005 07:26 PM  Permalink

It is a pity that a land which produced the eminenet statesman Chanakya who successfully plotted to force Alexandar the great to retreat from India, is today not having ministers of similar stature. Chanakya's (Kautilya) Arthashastra is relevant even today. It tell in clear terms how to keep the enemey in control. Our mandarins should learn lessons from Chanakya and his book.
