Good analysis
by pankaj on Sep 03, 2005 09:29 AM  Permalink

Very good analysis on Indo-US nuke pact. This is a dangerous trend by USA to recognise nations' nuke capability who flout international norms.
Iran, Syria, Pakistan, or any other country certainly has to RIGHT to nuclear weapon if India or any other country.
And the crap that India dishes out everyday that nuke is for peace is total hogwash. Unfortunately USA is looking at the defence contracts and hence agreed to this pact.

Kraepon and his ilk are Nuclear racists
by Dinesh on Sep 03, 2005 02:51 AM  Permalink

This is a lot of Bull, from Kraepon and hi ilk. The first things first, why should only 5 countries in the world should have Nuclear weapons. Either it should be none or evry one.

Secondly even in you have that why have the date of a968 as cut off why not 1975 or 1998 and include India or Pakistan also??

And why Kraepon and his ilk never talk about one more country who has never signed NPT, namely Israel. Why they single out India.

If insignificant countries like UK and France with 60 Million people can have the N Bomb, why not India - a nation which has to protect 1/5th pf the humanity, huh?

Wake up Kraepon, smell the coffee it is not 1955, we are living in 2005 and it is a very different world.

Dont compare india with syria, pakistan, n korea etc
by Laxman Singh on Sep 02, 2005 10:16 PM  Permalink

It is real absurd to compare a democratic & responsible state like India with rogue countries like pakistan, syria, iran & n.korea.

India's need for nuclear weapons is legitimate considering its 2 rogue neighbors (china & pakistan), both of whom are already nuclear-armed & always conniving against india.

India can be compared to USA of the cold-war decade, which had a need for nuclear weapons, but was nevertheless a responsible state.

Secondly, if you look at India's history dating thousands of years ago (when america was yet to be discovered & europeans were yet to be civilized), you will find that, not even a single-once, has India attacked some other country for land and/or wealth. Thus, peace & love runs in our blood.

I feel that the Bush admin has taken the right steps (albeit late) coz there are certain times, when you have to ignore what others say & take certain harsh steps for the common good. This is one of those times.

Thumbs up to the bush admin & god bless the growing relationship between USA & India.

Great interview.
by Vinod on Sep 02, 2005 03:42 PM  Permalink

For the first time in my life, i hear a perfect and open hearted interview from an american, eventhough he is an american his points are perfect. Both US and India have done a big blunder here, opening a loop hole for unstable nations like pakistan, iran to claim nuclear war heads. and also i still didnt understand why india cannot sign NPT, ideally pakistan is its biggest rival, but india now with its military capability can destroy pakistan in a day, if pakistan indulge for a war. so why dont we move on for the betterment of our people, rather requesting more nuclear weapons and arms race for showing the pride in the south asia. The main blame for this on the indian side would go to poorly educated and corruptive ministers in the centre and non proper and sublime national security thinkers and advisers appointed in the centre.let us change them to change the nation india's legacy and pride rests only on Non violence tought to us by the great mahatma.

Interview with Michael Krepon
by strysh4 on Sep 02, 2005 08:52 AM  Permalink

Ask Mr. KREPON if the US help India if there is an attack by Pakistan, like Kargil.

If they can sell India few nuclear warheads if India feels the threat of attack. Surely they wouldn't. Ultimately, it is India's filth to manage its borders. Would the US mind cleaning India's filth? It would.

If Mr Krepon has a headache or worse, Piles trouble, can a journalist feel the pain of it? He wouldn't. Likewise, the problems faced by India are typical of its geostrategic location and can be felt by India alone.

Any amount of preaching by Krepon will not sort out our problems. They sell weapons to the rogue state of Pakistan and lecture us to shun nukes! This is third rate double standards in action!!!

You journalists should at least think of interviewing such insensitive people.

Krepon is a loser!
by Suresh N on Sep 02, 2005 06:56 AM  Permalink

The give away line, "Now Iran wants things, Pakistan wants things, Syria may want things, lots of countries may want things. So where do you draw the line?" If this guy thinks these terrorist sponsor countries should be treated on par with India, his head needs to be examined. Is India going to do things with US only if it does the same things with Cuba? Wake up and smell the realpolitik coffee, Mike.
