Is BJP decline reversible?Well, what happens is completely upto the hands of BJP.BJP was brought to power solely by those who were and still are afraid of erosion of the oldest religion,of further shrinkage of Indian borders. In order to respect their voters,BJP had to be aggressive to the malicious minorities and to the minority appeasing pseudosecular forces. That would be nothing wrong. You follow normal regimen when you are safe and sound but if you are infected by deadly virus you have to resort to rigorous doses of antibiotics. That's normal. You exhibit peace and fairness only when things are smooth around you.But when the going gets tough, you have to be tough to get going.India is the only country in the world where minorities can be malicious to the majority and yet the majority dont have any right to strike back.BJP had to correct that situation and to make sure that India is dominated by the Indians and not by anti Indians. But they failed to do that and hence they lost. Now,BJP can surely make a more reinforced come back. But they have to shed their inhibitions;exhibit firm resolutions as they did in the event of Pokhran. If they do that, they are on.Else they are gone.
"There is scope in India for a conservative Right-of-Centre party that is not aggressively communal, like the Christian Democrats in Western Europe."
I agree with the columnist Mr. Bidwai's above statement. India needs a viable conservative party dedicated to cautious ideologies to balance dissipative economic ideologies. Just like Dravidian parties have matured to national politcs by giving up anti-Hindi platform, BJP like groups also should give up divisive politics and communal platform to make a new set-up with conservative economic policies. I AM SURPRISED WITH THIS ARTICLE BY THE AUTHOR AND CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HE WANTS TO CONVEY LET HIM REPLY TO
The CBI has been subverted to help Mohammad Shahabuddin, Mohammad Taslimuddin, Shibu Soren, Lalu Prasad. Governmental agencies and energy are used to help the tainted wash off the taint.
Dr Manmohan Singh is saying let there be a national consensus over the issue of tainted ministers. The proposal is hypocritical because the party that says there should be a national consensus never thought of it when they demanded L K Advani's resignation from the Council of Ministers
Anybody with any kind of affiliation with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or National Democratic Alliance should be out. If the Phukan Commission delivers a report exonerating George Fernandes, consign it to the dustbin.
If the government is to prosecute or persecute a man of honesty and the credentials of Arun Shourie and help the Shahabuddins and Taslimuddins, you have no right to be called decent.
Who is accountable for the political decisions taken in Jharkhand and Goa Who is accountable to Parliament The prime minister was unaware when the Leader of the Oppositio
Well it seems funny when u see so many people crying when someone speaks against BJP ( or is it that rediff editors looks like that, just removing the other views ) but when BJP writers including their MP and president writes they looks joyful. But somehow I didnt get my answer: why is 90% of BJP seats come from socially backward regions of India? can anyone answer.May be rediff editors try to answer? Can i get my comments posted?..Please!!!
It is a good analysis of an intellectual truly concerned at the quality of a national party and how it is dealing with tough times.
We need a strong party with intellectuals to help India live upto its potential. BJP is truly secular, broad minded and progressive in its thoughts and needs to get its act together in time to save the nation.
I believe it did a wonderful job when in power and needs to do everything possible to get back to power as soon as possible. India cannot progress with Congress in power - they are only trying to fill their personal coffers and destroy the nation. This is not the Congress that has the greats like Gandhi and others.
There is nothing new in Prafull Bidwai's comments. Similar comments were made by him and others after 1984 Loksabha elections when BJP won only two seats.
Less than a year ago everyone was talking about Congress in the same vein - it is going to die. Today, the tables are turned on BJP. While it is true, that political parties in India when out of power are like fish out of water. Yet, writing them off can either be naive or have ulterior motives. The tone of the article points to the later.
