Its truly sadenning to always hear that our "BRAVE SOLDIERS" always and always sacrifice their precious life for the country and yet the politicians and so called "LEADERS" always and always compromise on the vital security issues concerning the country.Be it the country's respect or its strategic interests politicians have played havoc. Our "leaders" are always compromising our dignity behind the back of the people through backroom diplomacy, somehow they seem to suffer from coming clear and show guts and gumption in taking important decisions concerning the country. Always they have mistrusted the indian people even though they are considered and elected as the true representatives of the people. GOD SAVE INDIA....Thanks to the Brave Indian Soldiers.Bravo!!!!!
After reading this article i realised that our Indian army is not weak but its the leaders who have always let us down. I understand that there might be some compulsions for thees leaders to take such descions like returning the northern terrotories, but what about the sacrifices made by our great warriors?????? I strongly believe that the time has come for India to realise the double standards of the west. We should end this Kashmir dispute once & for all. I also believe that the proposed solution of turning the LOC to border is not justified as <KASHMIR IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF INDIA> & it just requires a strong government & we will have it.
Good article on Siachen. Our politicians & political parties should understand the sentiments of our armed forces and millions of patriot indians.
We should not negotiate with Pakistan on Siachen or any other issue against the national interest ( leave aside the appeasement policy and vote bank.). In fact, our political parties should make our country safe for any threat from our neighbours especially from Pakistan, Bangladesh & China.
We should teach a lesson to Pak, Bangladesh & China in the same( or even bigger) form, in which they are disturbing our country. Instead of spending our resources on the defence of internal security, we should spent many times more on the strategies and actions to counter ISI & PLA etc.
well said and perfectly true. I agree to opinion and i have feeling that during the past 50 years we haven't got good enough politicians who have brains to think of all those issues in an effective way. Only god can save the country, which he is already doing.
Funny argument.Any man with a little commonsense would donate Siachin to Pak army or Mujahids if the report is factually correct. If there is no military advantage in occupying Siachin glacier, then let the enemy occupy it and make them pay the price in human and economic term.
I do agree with each and every line in the article. I come from a Defence background (my Dad is an Air Force Officer). When I had to choose my career, it was he who insisted that I should go for something else and not Defence. And many of my father's colleagues shared the same views. They said, that its Defence that bears the cost for everything and politicos who get the fruit. All the examples written here were told to me during those times. And then there were many reasons of the same type. Ultimately, I changed my mind and opted for Engineering. Today, I am in Infosys. If not in Defence, I am still ensuring my part by working at the best levels in Software field. But, will anyone ever do anything about these politicians. I always wondered thatif this is what Defence men feel, why don't they teach these oldies a lesson. These politicos are nothing on their own. If Musharraf can come in power for some dubious reasons, can't the Indian Defence take over for the benefit of the entire nation? Big Daddies of Indian Defence, do give it a thought. If politicos can't deliver, take responsibility on your shoulders and do something good for the nation. Regards
It's a very good article. Due to poor strategic and long term vision of Indian leaders starting from socialistic Mr.Nehru to nationalistic Mr.Vajpayee India today is facing so many troubles. I completely agree with the views of the article. To add to this, when the BJP first came to power in late 90's, patriotic indians like me had lots of hopes from it. Fortunately, they did fulfill a few hopes, like going nuclear, establishing closer relations with major nations and groupings in the world like U.S, EU, ASEAN, etc. But, then it was really heart breaking to see that Mr. Jaswant Singh personally escorted the three terrorists - Maulana Masood Azhar, Omar Sheikh and Mushtaq Zargar to release the passengers of IA flight IC 814 during the Kandahar Hijacking. What a shame it was for India. The problem of illegal bangladeshis flooding border states - particularly Assam and West Bengal is assuming dangerous proportions. Yet, our leaders refuse to acknowledge the problem and deal with it. The congress continues to treat these illegal aliens as a vote bank. Now, what about India? what about Indians? who cares for us? who cares for India? Is some body listening? Anyone paying attention?
"But the real unsaid reason for the Indian Army's reluctance lies elsewhere: The lack of trust in our civil leadership on military issues"... this one statement from the author has suddenly put the venerable Indian army in the same nasty bracket as the pakistani army; a military wanting to take political decisions. While the arguments made in the article are very relevant, the author needs to understand that war is too important a matter to leave in the hands of army generals. Civilian governments have had to compromise the military advantages, in 1965, in 1971... but one must understand the plethora of considerations that an elected civilian government has to face. A clear example can be found in Musharaf... as a Military general he could say/do whatever he felt like in Kashmir... but as the President of his country, he has had to operate under tremendous pressure!... Outrightly blaming a civilian government is easy for a military general.. but as they say "grass is always greener on the other side".
