"But the real unsaid reason for the Indian Army's reluctance lies elsewhere: The lack of trust in our civil leadership on military issues"... this one statement from the author has suddenly put the venerable Indian army in the same nasty bracket as the pakistani army; a military wanting to take political decisions. While the arguments made in the article are very relevant, the author needs to understand that war is too important a matter to leave in the hands of army generals. Civilian governments have had to compromise the military advantages, in 1965, in 1971... but one must understand the plethora of considerations that an elected civilian government has to face. A clear example can be found in Musharaf... as a Military general he could say/do whatever he felt like in Kashmir... but as the President of his country, he has had to operate under tremendous pressure!... Outrightly blaming a civilian government is easy for a military general.. but as they say "grass is always greener on the other side".
