True.....
by rahul on Feb 10, 2005 11:38 AM  Permalink

Please enlighten the Indian political leaders on such issues......
We pray together that they wake up, before INDIA goes back in the dark ages of colonialism. The jawan on the border waits for their co-operation.....

It is really good that rediff is bringing such topics to the fore......

Nepal is also the breeding ground for several terrorists.... if these activities not contained now.....

Utopianistic
by vinodh on Feb 10, 2005 10:49 AM  Permalink

Rajeev's points and counter arguments sound unrealistic and probably he wrote this article aftre having some nightmares with chinese dragons.

Tibet's story is unfortunate and still we have reports of young tibetan males killed so as to wipe away a huge generation.Chinese hegemony too is well known but forecasting something like a chinese invasion of tibet is too utopianistic in this century as the BIG brothers of world would take this an oppurtunity to casticate China. And china's existing internal problem with islamic rebellions in a few provinces would only discourage them to take up neapl.Probably they might adventure to keep a puppet government unless India acts soon.

Nepal...the next Tibet
by Abhik Ray-Chaudhury on Feb 10, 2005 06:58 AM  Permalink

I liked the article, though do not think China is
bent on moving India out of Nepal. I did not see
any report that the maoists in nepal or india are
being supported by China anyway.
However, the danger posed by the
communsts/socialists are real and present
danger. God only knows when we are going to get
rid of these fifth columnists.
Thanks Rajeev Srinivasan and Rediff for the
article.

Far fetched....... not impossible
by Sohail on Feb 10, 2005 02:30 AM  Permalink

The ideas presented in the article may seem far-fetched at first but they are not an impossibility.

There is nothing much one can do. Given the largely illiterate voting population in India, coupled with the fact the President wields no (REAL) power, all we can do is read, agree, shake our heads in disgust and (for those who believe - pray).

Telling...
by Pathur S. Swaminathan on Feb 10, 2005 01:50 AM  Permalink

This is a telling article. I hope the opposition is paying heed, if not the current GOI.

Hello...

Are there any strategic thinkers out there!

Poor frustrated Srinivasan

While I highly admire your powers of voabulary and awareness of the world, I have to diagree with most of your views (I still religiously read each one them). It is of paramount importance for India to act in its best interest and try to control Nepal. But before putting all the blame on Nehru and his dynasty, please clarify what the previous government did when King Birendra's family was massacred. What did they do when poor passengers on an IA flight were held at gun point to free a few of India's most wanted.
I am not an ardent fan of the Congress and I never expectd the BJP to undo all the follies of the past 50 years. But, in their five years in power, I never had reason to feel that there ever was going to be a change in any of the issues that have plagued our country.

never
by sathish on Feb 09, 2005 10:38 PM  Permalink

well,ur comparisons of keralites at helm are true and they being burueacrats/cops of indias first democratic state might tempt u to have such great ideas but never underestimate present india to india of 60's.chinese cant enter india, thats why they have recognised sikkim as part of india man,for myanmar generals know they cant play china on india and thats why they recently cracked down on northeast rebels operating from there ala bhutan.myanmar generals might be close to china for they are shut out from the other powers but howlong?democracy still lingers in myanmarese hearts and they want to be close to asean than china and with whose members china has dispute over spartly islands.the dacade gone by has shown to the world that u cant occupy a country as ur previous property ala kuwait by iraq, kargil by pakistan and even US are being taught the same in iraq.the only place left to occupy is antarctica where everyone including us are venturing there.

[Should we become terriorist]
by Omprakash Valvekar on Feb 09, 2005 09:13 PM  Permalink

Dear Sir,

when we look or think of indian security & foreign policy i don't why congress people, sideline the srategic national interest, under the words like secularrisum and democracy.

My simple question to them is that, if u cant keep the people interest in mind, i don't why the indian miltary esabilshment does not understand it, why does these people keep mum. is the blood of my poor soliders is water for these rulers.

in such a case the civilized educated public has to make these people understand by takeing the arms in hand but! for my national intrest.
