Who needs secularism?
by Gopal Sharma on Sep 13, 2005 10:23 PM  Permalink

Very goog diagnosis of the disease called 'secularism' in India. The author has shown courage by writing: I can never forgive V.P. Singh, former PM, for dividing India on caste lines. He (VP) should, in fact, be jailed for his crime ! Brave words, brave author. Congrats. -- Gopal Sharma

Caste system
by Sushant Singhal on Sep 12, 2005 12:56 PM  Permalink

If a club wishes to organise a 7 days camp in the outskirts of the city, what will it do? It will distribute the workload amongst its members. Members will be asked to shoulder whatever responsibilities they enjoy taking and have special talents for. Some will take care of security aspects, some will finalise the curriculam for the trainees. Some may be asked to raise funds, some will be editing the souvenir. Some may take up the responsibility of cultural programs. Some will organise the kitchen and the meals. Those having no specific talents will be helpful in general duties - erection of tents, cleanliness etc. etc. Is any one member inherently superior to the other ? No. Is anyone's work less important than the others ? No. All are equal and are contributing to a common cause. Everyone is doing his work according to his liking and is helping the club in achieving its goal. This exactly is the original caste system in the society corporate. Calling brahmans superiors and sudras untouchables is the biggest show of foolishness and ignorance. In the caste system the old sociologists had tried to bring out the best in each of us for the cause of society.

What kind of politicians do we need ?
by Sushant Singhal on Sep 08, 2005 01:27 PM  Permalink

Our constitution provides that any person of Indian nationality and having crossed 25 years of age may become our representative to the highest office of India - the law making body. No education - yes, absolutely no education is required for him. Not only this, he could be spending his time in jail while filing his nomination. He could be a hardcore criminal, a rapist, an extortionist or whatever he chooses to be. This constitutional provision is very dear to our present day representatives since nothing suits them more. If any attempt is made by the Supreme Court or by the election commission to introduce some filters to this unqualified permission, the politicians start howling.
I suggest just one thing. Only those persons should be allowed to file nomination papers who can appear for preliminery exam for IAS or IPS. In order to become a minister, a person must actually pass the preliminery exam for the IAS/IPS. We would then have our ministers as learned as S. Manmohan Singh who is ex-governor of RBI. Merely the ability to give a rabble rousing speech cannot be the suitable qualification to become a law-maker of the land.

Is our Democracy the final word and cud it be improved upon?
by Sushant Singhal on Sep 08, 2005 12:01 PM  Permalink

A policeman standing on a square demands 20 rupees to let go a breach of law. When asked he would say - I am not alone. Moreover, the money thus collected is shared by my bosses. When the S.O. is contacted, he might say, "I have bought this posting after paying this and this amount. I made an investment and now I have to get my returns. When the SSP is asked, "Why do you take money to grant favourite postings etc. etc., he would say, "I got this district only after paying these many crores to rupees to the Chief Minister. He expects a certain sum must reach him every month. When ultimately, you ask the CM, he might reply - I spent crores of rupees on election and to buy the MLAs. What for ? Now I have to earn so that I may fight next elections.

So, dear friends, the real culprit is our election system which is the fruit of our unthoughtfully written Consitution. Unless we make it possible for an ideal candidate to fight and win an election without spending a single rupee, you can't expect any improvement in our country.

Who needs Secularism
by shyam2k on Sep 08, 2005 12:16 AM  Permalink

The best article yet describing what the Congress has blundered and forced the country to live with for years. Remember VP Singh has been brought up in Politics with the congress grounding and hence his actions may seem fair to him but to me he failed India and Indians should never forgive him. A dalit, muslim, buddhist, Christian or Parsi are all equals with Brahmins and sikhs. All of us are Hindus - by virtue of our stock. Its time to throw away the conversion practice promoted by Christians and Muslims in this country. Let us make India a land where justice walks upright and love for everyone is dominant. With all the churches and masjids that have cropped up since 1980's, has any spread the message of brotherhood and love?

Secular

VP Singh deserves much more than a mere jail sentence. Not only did he divide our society formally, he put IA in the red by grounding A320 airbus ac for 11 months. He destroyed defence procurement, as a result defence preparedness, by chasing the bogies of Bofors and HDW. He without doubt was the worst PM the country had.

Majority to be united
by SDS on Aug 31, 2005 04:23 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is time that majority gets united and votes for the single party, probably BJP and give them 2/3rd Majority. The benefit shall be that required changes in the constitution can be easlily done. I am aware that somebody may write about noting done by BJP govt. in last tenure, but we need to understand that they were not in majority.
In my view, secularism is respect for all religions. At the same time secularism is like Non-align movement i.e. you are no-where. The better idea is to declare INDIA as an hindu state and give protection by law to all other religions. If such law is misused, it can be withdrawn. At present such freedom for minority is taken for granted and hence has no value.

Till we have moral and sacrificing nature built into every individual of this country, I feel that we can't change the society in any way. Looking at history and present affairs in every party, I feel that there will be some [infact lot] traitor who will be opportunist and screw the rest.
