Surprising prescription
by A C Verma on Sep 24, 2005 10:18 PM  Permalink

I am surprised at this impractical prescription coming from a senior Police Officer . It appears that Mr Singh has been sadly ignorant of human nature so far , an astonishing situation given the fact that good police officers are expert practitioners of psychology . There is no attempt to even understand the roots of violence or the gigantic political and religious forces which mould behaviour of human masses and compel conflict . Extremely disappointing.

Terrorism: We are worse off than others.
by Rajesh Malhotra on Sep 04, 2005 12:01 AM  Permalink

Sir,
I compliment you on trying to deal with the issue of terrorism holistically. While I agree that all the root causes of this global problem need to be looked into,I have my strong doubts if we as nation are capable of honestly and whole heartedly dealing with this issue. You rightly mentioned that many of our policies are divisive in nature and tend to appease certain ( Politically rewarding )communities. Also we as a nation excel in taking half-hearted measures, making cosmetic changes and delivering ceremonial lectures on communal harmony.I often wonder if it is humanly possible to change things for the better in a Country like India, where a vey ordinary political class supported by an ever increasing class of pseudo nationalists(Anti-social and inhuman to the core)has a vice like grip over the remaining lot.
Sir while genuine, shrewd and foresighted efforts are requird to deal with the ever increasing threat of terrorism,we as a nation of dangerous and conflicting diversities are worse off in dealing with such a problem.I have no doubt in my mind that till the time we don't work towards preventing disasters, mishaps & losses, our worst fears will only come true.
Rajesh.

Roots of terror.
by Ayatul Islam on Aug 27, 2005 06:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mr Chavez is terrorized by a US citizen(open declaration to Assasinate him).Sending the message U have no right to live and they talk about "FREEDOM", AXIS OF EVIL,and blah blah.....". Now still i am confused where "THE AXIS OF EVIL" is actually tilted to? :) Now don't tell me that it is towards CHAVEZ."Either you are with us or with them" what does this signify. They talk of Religious freedom and blah blah...... where is it when they disgrace THE "Holy QURAN" I have heard of any country where the Quran had been disgraced.Mr George Fernandes is stripped :) Good for we indians isn't it we should be proud of US,isn't it?(mr BUSH we are with U,strip him again).
Friends still we need to know the truth and analyse everything from the roots.Lets get up Now from our illusioned sleep? Come forward and acknowledge the INJUSTICE and stand against the INJUSTICE else the JUSTICE will stand up one day against us and that day will not be an easy one .. the topic is an endless one one can come up with huge huge huge arguments...............

Tackling terror's roots
by Ayatul Islam on Aug 27, 2005 06:39 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Let the Learned people of the world Ponder on the Question "Why only a few countries are bombed by terrorists? Why only London,France,Spain and... Why not others?Dear all, If U are following a religion then try finding the answers to these questions in the circle of your religious teachings, and not on the basis of Your own ANALOGY because "TRUTH can be one ONE". If fighting for justice is bad or wrong then MAHABHARATA WAR was wrong RAMAYANA was wrong and........If you want to know the sufferings of PALESTINIANS try to learn about the problems of the kashmiri pundits..... Nothing more to say.Don't keep double standards in mind while searching for truth else you will be liable to answer your own GOD (If he exists)one day .
But only one thing The picture painted by the media is that none of the muslims in the world is a good being.
When 40 people are killed in London -MAKES HEADLINE and what about 25000 people killed in IRAQ war. Every one is terrorized by US.The US wants to monopolize everything . Now that can't be allowed. If you guys can allow that then Allow it But i will fight till the end of my life to fight it anywhere i am and any way possilble. Root cause of terror is USA.

Mr. Islam,

Just because terrorists perceive they are fighting for justice it does not mean that they are really fighting for justice. India has been subject to mindless terror in the name of Kashmir, on that count alone can it be said that terror is justified?

All new thoughts and ideas begin as minority opinion and acquire acceptance over time. Democracy is the mechanism that serves as a crucible for minority opinion and enables the valid ones to attain mass acceptance, and this includes even religious affairs.

Democratic means are available to establish rule of law and make all opinions heard to fashion a sovereign Iraq, why the terror then? Same is true in Afghanistan. Why do the Taliban terrorists insist on imposing their own brand of dated beliefs on everybody? Terrorism is unholy and senseless means to achieve any objective. Gandhiji equated truth with non-violence. Violent means imply false conclusions and go against the grain of democracy.

Hate may not be the root cause of terror
by N J Ramesh on Aug 27, 2005 09:24 AM  Permalink

The premise of tracing the psychological roots of terror to hate is questionable. Hate is unlikely to sustain cool calculations, sophisticated coordination and deployment exhibited by the terror operators. The cannon fodder of terror may be driven by hate. The motivation may be either one related to identity or invoked by a sense of injustice, i.e. the motivation is seeking justice. Pakistan identifies itself with Islam and it is natural for many of them to assume that the logic of partition should bring Kashmir to Pakistan. Here both identity and sense of injustice has formed a deadly combination, driving most of the terror activities in India.
The role of Indian state as an entity that permits greater psychological space and creates far better potential for well being is not easy to grasp. Once this becomes discernable, the response of the countering society appears to be either compete harder or to regress further and even deploy repressive means to reinforce conformance of community identity. The motivation of terror will evaporate only when the injustices to their people by their own society become clear.

Satyapal Singh's -Cry about Brutish Hatred!
by Dharmendra Goel on Aug 27, 2005 07:22 AM  Permalink

Pkl. Saturday, 27th Aug. 2005.
Yes Singh is justified in feeling that our controlling
Terror world -wide is handicapped by the availability
of knowledge , that internet provides and maniac haters breed through shady narco -trading ,Gun running
and skin trades to gather enough resources and various brutalized Shaheeds for mindless vendettas against real or imaginary collective slurs and indignities of a very Globally sequestered Mankind.
Point is how to overcome this hubris of intense
hatred that "difference " nurtures in all our psyche.
Realization that difference is sign of creativity..
every Child of mankind can perhaps make us mellow

SPEAK THE TRUTH
by Vivek Harry on Aug 26, 2005 07:11 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

When the PM speaks true lies like "150 million but no Al Qaida," we see how serious he is in the war on terror. What then are LET, Jaish, SIMI, Hizbul if not the different faces of this hydra-headed monster? It is these kind of institutionalized lies right from prepartition period which have protected this terror. We need to boldly hold a mirror to these fanatics. We need to do a hard reality check on our so called secular value system which is preventing them from reform. When the SC tells the govt to stop the invasion in Assam, our politicians rush like crazy to enact a new law to protect the Bong invaders. Do we give them votes to defend our country or only defend the minorities? Will these minorities, once they have a majority, even pay scant respect to secularism? Then why are they shouting that they will make an Afghanistan out of Bangladesh. How can our leaders be so shortsighted and traitorous for the sake of a few votes for power? Forget them, why are people blindly voting for those people who only have their own interests in mind? People have to vote not on caste lines but in national interest. Otherwise, the ultimate blame will fall on the janata themselves.

Who cares for our votes? Whom do you vote, all Political parties are birds of same feather. All they care for cheap populist policies. You observe all they are bothered for minority vote, dalit votes, yadav votes etc etc. A party which was known as party with difference proved themselves that they are with no difference. Today they folk together to change SC verdict(backward vote), says it was not the day of partition but 6/12/92 was the saddest day of their life(minority vote).Whom do you trust to give your representation? You decide not to vote, it does not matter; even if some body gets 10% or 5% support of people they can do raj in this country. There is no bar for a known criminal to contest and win and make legislation in their favour, there is no bar that a representative must have atleast 40% votes of total eligible votes or atleast total casted votes. We people are definitely to be blamed but can any body tell us a solution when you have to choose from a basket full of rotten apples. You say you yourself contest but where is money, network etc etc required to contest and win. So we feel let this country go to hell but not till I am alive.

One of few examples where noun(hatred) is longer than verb (hate). What does this show .. Hatred is more product of rhetoric (Noun) than fact (verb)
