beware mumbaikars
by doris rebeiro on Aug 24, 2005 11:06 AM  Permalink

The recent deluge mumbai faced is a strong reminder that all is not well with mumbai. Drainage, water shortage, very old buildings and shortage of accommodation are perhaps some of the pressing problems the city faces. Will the Govt. please do something to improve all the above things so that nothing untoward happens.

Stop Pampering Tennants
by Sudeep Paralkar on Aug 23, 2005 05:22 PM  Permalink

The Old Rented building collapses and landlord becomes the villan. For God'Sake when the government and the tennants in particular be responsible .
The rents are so low in these old buildings not enough
for Decent Lunch for One Person.
The Policy of appeasement to Tennants is absolutely
not correct.
Then there is MHADA who were snatching the properties of Land-Lords and converting into Societies.

It is not constitutionally correct to snatch the property. The case is now in supreme court.

Rent Act has to be removed and rents should be as per market value if tennats expect repairs and safety of buiding.
Enough of pampering to tennants

Building collapsed-
by Vicky on Aug 23, 2005 03:52 PM  Permalink

such incidence shows that people dosn't value their precious life. Why on earth they stayed back their despite the notice fm BMC? Do they expect govt 2 give them readymade house to stay? One must first take care of their lives & not just blame others.

On other hand, i suggest that govt should provide them temp housing arragement & forcefully vaccate such places. Sure it will save lot of lives

Pathetic Governance.
by Bimal on Aug 23, 2005 10:00 AM  Permalink

Your report clearly mentions that BMC had asked people living in this building to vacate the same since it was in a bad shape. However, our CM told the NDTV guys that this building had been repaired with the help of some MLA fund (Which I seriously doubt) just 2 years back. This shows the amount of corruption that has spread like white ants in all the Government Departments.

The situation is going from bad to worse. We need fresh breed of politicians (which I know is a rare species) or the better option would be to have Military Rule whereby even the common citizens will have some civic discipline.

building collapse.
by ashok chavda on Aug 23, 2005 08:41 AM  Permalink

again, BMC will do the fire-fighting. they will never understand that the prevention is better then cure. after deluge, many buildings are on the verge of collapse and needs to be evacuated like Israel evacuated from Gaza. yes, forcefully if residents do not vacate the buildings. can MH govt. do this?
