the nanavati report
by dthorat on Aug 10, 2005 09:30 PM  Permalink

The 1984 is truly a very, vry great tragedy and a "national shame" as our PM has said. The Govt. must do everything to wipe away every tear of agony from the Sikh brothers and sisters and their children.
Those who want to politicise the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots, must understand that every Indian including all Congress people and their supporters had always held the Sikh people in the highest esteem till Oct/Nov 1984, for their bravery, their great talents, great sacrifices, their whole Sikh spirit in all walks of life, and even today the Sikh community is very highly and genuinely respected by the rest of Indians. There never was any hate campaigns designed against them by Congress or anyone, unlike the hate campaigns against the Muslim community by parties such as BJP/Jana Sangh/RSS and hidden RSS supporters. These people have been spreading hatred even before we got our independence. These riots differ from the venomous Godhra pogrom in this important repect.
In Pune and many parts of Maharashtra tonsured children and young men were seen on roads, as if they have lost their own beloved mother in Indira Gandhi. And the mobs turned violent, behaving like cruel, rabid animals.

What the Nation owes to these victims
by kulmohan on Aug 10, 2005 08:29 PM  Permalink

The need of the hour is the urge to do justice. Evidence is already available to the courts and commissions in plenty.

Re-opening the 1984 cases may mean that poor old Anoop kaur and other widows of 1984 once again need to do the rounds of session courts at first then the High Court and then the Supreme Court if they are still alive on that day. Or does the government intend to set up fast track courts to bring some justice to those starved of it for the last 20 years?

The DDA housing provided to some of the victims in Tilak Vihar is in shambles, roofs of some of the DDA house have started falling and caused fatalities .

The government should prioritise to provide the 1984 victims in honest manner with: -

1. Proper and adequate housing
2. Govt. jobs to the children of their families
3. Decent pension to widows

Out nation badly owes this to the innocent people who were butchered, burnt alive and raped in front of their family members for no fault of theirs.

PM says Govt will examine Nanavati cases
by Krishan K Arora on Aug 10, 2005 07:49 PM  Permalink

I am quite satisfied with the explanation given by the the Prime Minister on the floor of the House. The case should get closed here but I know it wont as the Opposition got a little fodder stick to beat the Govt with. The media by and large is also heavily irresponsible. Under the circumstances the only option with the PM is to have a reshuffle of the Cabinet and drop Mr Jagdish Tytler to get the winds out of the Opposition unnecessary attack. Then slowly the PM start looking into such cases where the Opposition leaders are also involved and take the action required under the full extent of law.

nanavati commission
by vasudeva rao on Aug 10, 2005 07:29 PM  Permalink

the congressmen are making hue & cry on Godhra & Mumbai riot cases where some vested interest is existing. Why they are silent on Nanavati Commission's report, where their own senior & notorious leaders are actively involved. If a national party with the great history of 120 years is not respecting the judiciary, we can not expect the same from Laloo or Dawood or Abdul Karim Telgi
