I found an interesting article in the Asian age which all should read. Apparently Zahira denied she filed an affidavit before the Godhra commission and was shown her signatures which she acknowledges as hers. Truth will prevail no doubt about that...
Ahmedabad, May 4: The prime witness in the best bakery case, Ms Zahira Sheikh, on Wednesday denied that she had filed any affidavit before the godhra commission, but acknowledged the signatures on the affidavit dated may 20, 2002 as hers. Ms Sheikh, who appeared before the nanavati-shah Commission, was shown a copy of the affidavit with her name.
There have been many cases in which criminals have been acquitted for want of evidence, thanks to the law in our land. However, in the case of the similarly placed Best Bakery case, the Supreme Court took an exceptional view and transferred the case for its retrial in Mumbai. Many luminaries in the legal circles have vehemently criticized this landmark judgement. The decision may have extremely serious consequences on the judiciary, secularism, communal harmony and democracy in the country. Two prominent individuals involved in the case, Zaheera Sheikh, a key witness in the case and Teesta Javed (Ansari) Setalvad, a controversial activist, were friendly at the beginning of the case but have now turned foes.
Being a Gandhian and an Ambedkarite human rights activist, I, cannot remain a silent spectator of the happenings regarding the case and have, therefore, filed a PIL in the Supreme Court for review of its landmark judgement of transferring the Best Bakery case from Gujarat to Maharashtra, for investigating the role of Teesta Setalvad and her NGO, Citizens for Justice and Peace and also for censuring the National Human Rights Commissi
Nice article âThe strange case of Zahira & Teestaâ by Sandhya Jain mentioning how the secularists have exaggerated the Gujarat Riots. Even the claims of Mr. Sreekumar or Mr. Mandar also seem to be hollow as they are loyal politically as per their cast from their home state. In fact the Gujarat Government had hired the services of Mr. K. P. S. Gill who is from different background and not known to BJP sympathizer, for controlling the situation. He has not found any objectionable order or any act from the government. In fact, in the same Gujarat, longer communal riots had taken place during Mr. Hitendra Mehtaâs chief ministerial tenure in 1972 and also during Mr. Solankiâs chief ministerial tenure in 1982 though at those times there was no cruel incidence like Godhra happened. Secularists and their friendly NGOs have only used this situation to mint more money. It seams that NHRC is a gang of such people who are not allowing outsiders in their organization. So they are objecting to Mr. P. C. Sharma (Retired C. B. I. head) to head NHRC which was turned down by court yesterday. Now several reporters like Sandhya Jain write such articles, let the judgments go against NGO+Secularists combine, let the their anti-Hindu propaganda stop, the point is un attended that NGO+Secularists combine have minted money in all these affairs.
Thanks Sandhya for the eye opener article. The Gujarat riots and the bla-bla after that is mostly about money. Truely people died in Gujarat, but people die anywhere there is a riot. Unfortunately, nowhere no where else, the media wants to make fortune out of people's tragedy. Sometimes I wonder, who are worse, the politicians, or the well paid English-speaking journalists, who will write anything and "do-anything" for a few pieces of silver.
