I think water scarcity in India and other parts of the world will be solved now if a pipeline is laid from Mars to Earth. Also, this pipe can serve as a rail for transport facility now that the space tourism is becoming a hobby for the affluent people.

There is no water scarcity in India. It is the mismanagement of water resources by the government.

Saugata, do u talk to people only when they belong to ur community... Grow up brother and dont spread hatred. We all are born as humans first and then our nationality/religion/caste comes into picture.
First be a human!!! no religion encourages killing each other. It is some fanatics who in the name of religion are making our lives miserable.
Take care and be a responsible human/citizen in such forums.

why be a human if your life can be taken away by reading some verses from a book?? it is more important to speak out and destroy evil.

@"Saugata Banerjee: Dont copy some wrong messages from the blogs and post here, if u dont know then keep quite, dont try to give wrong info. God bless u...
good..now u have water, air and food too..lets shift some guys there and increase the population. Earth has become too small for so many people..its time that we spoil other planets too.

Shift all americans to MARS then earth will be safer. Let them hold the whole MARS.

Then all the people like you will start applying for H1 for Mars. You guys say you hate US but still love to work in their country :)
I guess that will only happen when political parties make space exploration a poll issue. So this further boils down to >>When will Indian voter think anything other than price of onions and potatoes to chose a particular party to vote for ?
RE:when will ISRO ?
by Tathagatha Alerjee on Aug 05, 2008 02:52 AM Permalink
ISRO will send a mission to alpha centauri (the closest star from the sun) in two years. Our babus are busy solving an equation, once they figure out (a b )^2 = a^2 b^2 2 a.b, the final equation for launching the rocket will be solved. To find such a person who can expand (a b)^2, physics Nobel Laureate Arjun Singh is coming up with formulas that will revolutionize India's education.
Dream on man, ISRO, at best can compete with Paki, Afghani research organizations. Show me at least one guy in IIT JEE top 100, who joins ISRO. They may not join NASA either but most of them end up becoming profs in US universities and contribute indirectly to NASA (sometimes). Forget JEE, if you show me a person with in CET top 2000 from karnataka who has joined ISRO and satyed there for more than 5 years, i will give you a million dollars...when this is the situation, dont expect anything.

As I recall, ISRO has always been a high flier (literally), though not being able to hire the quality of talent that invariably gets picked up by blue chips in India or universities abroad may take its toll. I think ISRO will pull through and continue to do India proud. Organizations like ISRO, BARC, TIFR, etc. are bastions of scientific expertise in India and will continue to be.
Though NASA projects such as this one seem like pointless splurges, they may pave the way the world evolves technologically. Imagine the discovery of molecules that have either improve health, energy or manufacturing. Besides, if Mars once had life (based on this recent finding), we may learn how that life perished, and how we can avoid that from happening to our own beloved planet.

it is easy to fantacize about these things. You yourself want to be in NJ and not in India and you think other brighter guys want to be in ISRO, dream on. If ISRO/DRDO etc are working, it is due to old people. In 60s/70s/80s joining a public sector company in india was the best thing one could do. It is no longer the case and govt is slow in responding. Once the old generation retires, ISRO can be thrashed.

Organizations like BARC.. Haaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa hahhhhhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I feel pity about this statement. BARC is simply wasting money. I worked their for 8 months. I feel, only cooks in restaurants, Bus drivers and Garden maintaining people are hard workers in BARC.
How much the Martian water costs for a litre? well it would include the fuel charges, wages and food charges of scientists,a large lumpsum just to have fun.
RE:What's the cost?

First of all there is no liquid water in Mars. Even if there is water it will be poison. it can not be potable. water contents will be there in the mud as water was flowing billions of years back in mars and there was life at that time as on today in the earth. now it is a dead planet. it will not support life in the future. but you can find out microbes there.
So what ? What a waste of resources. Exploring space and time is good but lets try to manage our 3rd rock first. We have plenty of time to explore our neighbors, we have to look our home first. I wish they stop funding NASA.
