wastage of human resources
by shobana vasudevan on May 07, 2008 05:57 PM  Permalink

India ,perhaps ,may be the only country where the abundantly available human resources are either completely wasted or converted into sheer numbers under the great economic title 'POPULATION'.Al that our so called wonderful education system has achieved is the creation of huge junk of graduates and post graduates of different kinds who have no practical knowledge of what they learn.they also are completely dark about the purpose of education. It is very sad that the reply mails recorded, directly talk about the pay offered at L&T by refusing to understand the spirit behind what Mr.Nayak observed.with the kind of disproportionate salary structure which is becoming evident day by day the wage differential quotient in Indian economy is quite alarming .this will definitely is the cause of social problems. crime rate definitely has increased. How many of these software engineers share their increase in their salary with their housemaids and drivers.we find the money fuels unnecessary consumption of unwanted things and undesirable activities. We find a mad race to imitate USA.where I strongly feel that the rest of the world would try to imitate us if we re discover ourselves. An engineer of a premier institute would not know to fix the fuse of the house if it falters. The parents may be all the more concerned to call a 5th grade failed technician who would definitely do a neat job.Mind you the mother of this grand engineer would negotiate with the poor chap for 25 rupees where she wou

Candidates should ask questions too
by on May 06, 2008 05:19 PM  Permalink

Unfortunately candidates don't ask questions of the big companies when they get selected. Many of these big names are also big employer brands, and have a great, well managed image. But the people who work there, especially at the lower levels know what the reality is....
Candidates have to be careful, and learn to ask hard questions before accepting any offer, and especially before signing any bond. Smaller companies may actually be much better to work for - the pay may be lesser, but you can maintain your sanity...

To Mr.Naik of L7T
by Amit on May 05, 2008 03:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Instead of leashing out on IT industry if Mr.Naik can do some introspection on why L&T was paying so pathatically few years back it will be better.
Engineers in core sector also need money to survive. If IT sector is paying it's imperetive that people wil join those companies.
More automation / increased production and better salary could have served L7T better then leashing out on other who pay.

Mr AM Naik is very correct when he lashes out at IT sector for hijacking engineers. Any nation can become a super power only if it has the four fundementals right and strong.
1)Manufacturing
2)Agriculture
3)Defence
4)Medicine.

By resorting to software services we are actually cutting our nations future. Well money is important, but great nations have focussed policies for overall development. In India any way we are predominantly doing only software patch works. May be because of dollar exchange rates they were relativily getting higher salaries.
So i would advise you to get your over all concepts right before you dare to comment on leaders like AM Naik. I also would like to remind you that philipines,Brazil,Argentina,Sri Lanka & Egypt are getting into IT bandwagon in a big way. China has started developing IT services at a vey low cost. So it is only a matter of time before this IT bubble explodes. Engineering is the only long standing bulkwark of progress.
Honestly tell me one IT product developed in India which is of global repute like say oracle, C, C , VB, Java etc. None is the true answer.

Whatever you say about It sector may be correct but that does not absolve so called leaders like "Naik" and pother captains of indian industry. Till late 90s they were paying peanuts and at the same time IT arrived and sucked engineers by the time they realized that young talent can not be taken for granted it was too later and rot was set in.
Indian manufacturing industry payed no attention to R&D till late 90s till they were pushed to wall by MNC onslaught so engineers were redundent and Graduate Engineering tranees were payed peanuts while managers got fat salary. Though most of the young starry eyed engineers wanted to work in core sector but pathatic salaries forced them out.
I remember that in 1993 my elder sister who was an electrical engineer went to Mahindra and mahindra for a job interviw and they asked her preference she said R&D and interview panel laughed that there is no such activity in Indian auto industry.
read any automobiles forum for tata safari and scorpio there are numerous complaints in these vehicals from the date tehy are launched but the companies have put in little or no effort to rectify, Compare there vehicals with toyota innova in same price range and you will find what R&D means

What prevented Mr.Naik of L&T to pay better
by Amit on May 05, 2008 03:32 PM  Permalink

This is with reference to leashing out on IT sector by AM Naik of L&T.
The problem started because you were not paying decent money to Engineers in L&T , L&T main operations are in Powai ( Mumbai) but atleast few years ago the salary was so pathatic in which you can not lead a decent life in a samll time leave alone Mumbai.
If you pay peanuts you will get monkeys who jump the board on first occasion.

AM Naik and B. Com phobia
by vijay nair on May 05, 2008 02:06 PM  Permalink

I had an interview with L&T Infotech some years back and my friends had told me not to join L&T as they have utter disregard for anyone who is not a engineer and now seeing AM Naiks comment my fear has been confirmed.

I hope they start respecting people with B.As and B.Com degrees

If you have the ability then - Prove it
by shashank rastogi on May 05, 2008 11:40 AM  Permalink

Take all this in positive note friends.
If we think that we are being underutilised, why not try and expand our span, count on our resources and ability and strike to prove ourself.

Every field of work should have some value addition which I can make to it, and to our personal profiles.

Be positive and donot give up, only then can we find ourself out of the situation. These business houses are there to make money,we should concentrate on how we can improve our lives.

Let the employers scream ATTRITION!!!!
by Proudly Indian on May 05, 2008 11:23 AM  Permalink

There are facts in this article!"...unreachable targets, unrealistic incentive temptations and poor work profile" is rightly happening in the industry!!!!

I feel, employees must use maximum opportunities to negotiate for salary and must use opportunities to change the jobs! It should be only your preference to work with an employer , you need not have unrealistic commitments and loyalty towards your employer, work honestly but work for yourself and for your career! If your are not rewarded properly, change the job!!Let the employers scream ATTRITION!!!!
