profit
by ganesh subramanian on Apr 29, 2008 12:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Any organisatio in india whether government, private etc should aim to make profit and pass on the benefit to its employees.performance of an organisation depends upon its employees. If a dept is not profitable then revamping of the staff should be done immediately.no emotional or feeling should come in between.

Is government giving anything in return afterwords?
by Vijay on Apr 29, 2008 12:12 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If any company misses an opportunity to make profit it is gone forever. It is totally foolish to ask anyone to forgo profit. People who did not had a chance to make profits will appreciate such statements.
There is no measure to estimate given up opportunity for the sake of country. This cannot be measured. So what our PM is talking is nonsense. Our PM is helpless and should retire instead of begging.

No fool on earth will work for loss. Any organisation will work on short term as well as long term profit.PM is a good person but he should be realistic in making such request. Can government run without tax collected from thepeople. If ministers, business class pays income tax in time and make use of the money properly by the govt, then entire country will be happy. All the business class should work profit on short term as well as long term

ministers should forego salary and perks
by anand vikram on Apr 29, 2008 12:06 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is just another example that the situation is beyond the government's control. It should have been better if the pm had asked his ministers to forego salary and perks and start paying rents for the bungleos that they are provided with. Before asking the industry to forego short term profits, the PM should have made an Inflation Management Fund and ask all his ministers to not to take any salary and allowances till the inflation rate comes under control. The money saved in this way should be used to provide subsidy so as to reduce the inflation. And this should be done without setting up any commission. !!!!!!!!!!

short term profits
by mukund kulkarni on Apr 29, 2008 12:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

His message will carry weight if the PM himself acts without bothering about short term benefits.

For starters he can sack the corrupt and tainted ministers from his cabinet.
He should apologise for writing on behalf of his corrupt minister to petroleum ministry.
Then only he can advise about not bothering about short term profits.

Chidambaram will get heart attack when he reads to your comment and charge you heavy penalty.am sure you will agree with me.Manmohan singh may forgo tax.Manmohan is at the wrong place. He should have been in a corporate head in acompany like tata, birla etc

I don't see why not.

The US Federal government has began issuing
electronic tax rebates under a $168 billion
program to bolster the economy.

And Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is already
in favour of forgoing tax for one year after
her win.

If PC gets a heart attack, we can manage.

Since When ?
by Final Arbiter on Apr 29, 2008 12:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Since when has private companies started caring about country's profits rather than theirs ? Is PM in his senses when he floats such a request ? When corporates start loosing money will the country step in and save them ? I heard this guy was a great economist ... seems he has converted into a communist sociologist after having tea with karats and yechurys of the world

I think his company with communists has changes him a lot.
Government should enact law and implement them from profiteering using cartels. It is stupid to appeal to private companies. You should use a stick when it is nescessary.

PM's solution!!
by Manoj Mehta on Apr 29, 2008 12:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Our " great " chamcha PM has given us solution to our problem i.e if you can't do it let others do it for you.

Government is now passing on the responsibilty of inflation to industrialists. MANUFACTURERS has already paid miillions of crores of direct & indirect taxes to government. Why can'e government reduces these taxes to bring down the prices??

RE:PM's solution!!
by Venkatesan Seshadri on Apr 29, 2008 12:21 PM  Permalink
Our Honourable PM's request is rather amusing and disappointing. Instead of trying to improve the lot of the poor and needy, he is passing the buck to Industry. Some time back he was blaming the highly-paid CEOs.

Let the PM, his colleagues, UPA and its leaders realise that SHORT-TERM, POPULIST and IRRATIONAL FISCAL MEASURES alone have contributed to this major disaster. A fortnight earlier the Finance Minister lashed out at cartels (in regard to cement, steel and commodity prices)and referred to the 'business class' as being greedy.

It is generally accepted that if Industry (private and public) does well, then the cost will come down (unless it is a monopoly). Some of the examples are Telecom, White goods (Fridge, TV, Computers..) and even Rail travel (the surplus profits have ensured that there was no increase in passenger fare that on the flip side the increase in freight has dented the wallet of the poor).

Industrialist-baiting is a favourite past-time of our politicians and sad to see our PM too join in this game.

Again it is the aam-aadmi and the garib who are bearing the brunt.

Can we as responsible citizens cut down on our avoidable expenses and contribute directly to good NGOs (our contribution vide Government taxes are not reaching the poor and the needy)?

Let's do what we can - the politicians just won't do anything good for society..

From a sad fellow-Indian

First things First,

Do not listen to the new IT minister who makes stupid proposals such as extending the IT tax holiday period for IT companies. No one in the IT industry is a popper. Even a low cader employee( i am not trying to undermine the importance of any kind of labour) in an IT industry who could be simply sitting in front of a coffee vending machine to operate it will be earning more than our poor farmers. that is the reality. All Indian IT companies have 20% bench staff who are paid to do nothing. So tax the IT industry. You can get more than 60K crores for farmer relief etc. This will drop down realestate prices, salaries will drop, purchasing power will drop and eventually demand and then prices.. IT industry is playing a havoc in this country, please understand Mr. Chidambaram
