No Backup Plans
by Jairam Jagdish Muthreja on Sep 03, 2007 09:45 AM  Permalink

Before the Government forgets, we must put this point forward to them that computer file formats may keep changing and data stored on CD may become unreadable after 15 years. Hence, it is advisable to store data on a CD as well as the printouts of the important (if not all) papers in an underground storage system for retrieval later.

e-Governance
by sangeet jha on Sep 02, 2007 10:05 PM  Permalink

The pace may be slow but the Common Service Centres(Kiosks)are being established in various states.By the end of the next year all the 1 lakh kiosks wiil get established.Haryana is leading in this.
One of the reasons for delay in e-Governance project is due to the fact that it is still in developing stage. The process has not been well defined. To establish kiosks in villages is not an easy task.Various issues like manpower, logistics, connectivity, cost, revenue etc.is involved.

The future of E-Governance in india is bright.

E-Governance- Need of the hour for speedy Development, by Mahendra Thakur
by Mahendra Thakur on Sep 02, 2007 12:47 AM  Permalink

An efficient & speedy decision making can contribute significantly for overall development of the country. Considering the bureaucratic hurdles, which are causing the delay for speedy, decision-making or development, are missing files, time taken to transfer the files, pending files etc; the E-governance is good and beneficial for country, as it may reduce substantial time required, for information transfer. Moreover, it will help, to reduce corruption, so it%u2019s application depends on the willingness of government officials and politicians. Sooner or later the reforms, will make imperative for government to implement it.

E-governance: A success or a failure?
by Natarajan Thinakaran on Sep 01, 2007 09:42 PM  Permalink

It's good reap the benefit of e-governance thru' our network infrastructure. But when is the defence forces implement this in their office such as AirForce, Army and Navy? Still ink-signed letter is a must in defence. Babus will process files in their own domain. They can't give approval on e-file/mail. Poor status! Sooner we realise the better it is for the country.

E-governance or Perish
by asokan a on Sep 01, 2007 05:54 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

E-governance should be introduced in all spheres of administration. Remember people opposed computerized ticketing of the Railways. See the benefit now. Any convenience for the common man should be implemented without delay. Else chaos shall prevail.

RE:E-governance or Perish
by Padmanabhan M on Sep 01, 2007 09:12 PM  Permalink
In Kerala, the leftists vehemently opposed introduction of computers in government offices, saying it will lead to reduction of jobs. Earlier they virtually stopped tractors and other mechanised equipment in farms, for the same reason. Their cadres even burnt down tractors when farmers tried to use them. Now of course, even the Marxists admit that mechanisation and computerisation have brought in benefits of efficiency and transparency.
The comminists are always like that, behind times by about 30 years from the rest of modern world. Examples are Russia, China, Vietnam, whole of east Europe, and several other former socialist nations. Poor India is cursed to bear their weight while everyone else marches ahead. Right now India has a opprtuinity and advantage to grow, create wealth and be among the developed country in 20 years. But the stranglehold of the Left on governance and policy making is laying waste to any such hopes. I have no doubt that 5 years from now we will regret deeply that we did not modernise fast enough.
Sadly, all intellectuals and opinion makers keep quiet over such a vital issue that could end poverty in India for ever! Instead there are so many people to rant endlessly about films, cricket and communal issues.

Its Good provided the Babus & the Lalus be on time for work & work efficiently(which is sadly lacking in political & govt offices) the admin does not want it as corruption levels might be attacked similar to the Right Of Information
