In Kerala, the leftists vehemently opposed introduction of computers in government offices, saying it will lead to reduction of jobs. Earlier they virtually stopped tractors and other mechanised equipment in farms, for the same reason. Their cadres even burnt down tractors when farmers tried to use them. Now of course, even the Marxists admit that mechanisation and computerisation have brought in benefits of efficiency and transparency. The comminists are always like that, behind times by about 30 years from the rest of modern world. Examples are Russia, China, Vietnam, whole of east Europe, and several other former socialist nations. Poor India is cursed to bear their weight while everyone else marches ahead. Right now India has a opprtuinity and advantage to grow, create wealth and be among the developed country in 20 years. But the stranglehold of the Left on governance and policy making is laying waste to any such hopes. I have no doubt that 5 years from now we will regret deeply that we did not modernise fast enough. Sadly, all intellectuals and opinion makers keep quiet over such a vital issue that could end poverty in India for ever! Instead there are so many people to rant endlessly about films, cricket and communal issues.
