Couldn't agree with you more. It shows clearly how Indians will stumble head over heels just to leave their own country. Living in the US for sometime now, I am amazed by the degree of patriotism that Americans show towards their own country. They all love America, whether they are happy with its politicians, or its policies or its problems or not. True, the lifestyle is better in US than in India, but they have struggled for over two centuries to be what they are today and not every day in that history has been a fairy-tale. In fact the going has been much much easier for Indians than it was for them.

And then there are Indians - No! There are no Indians! Inside the comfort of our homes, where the true test of patriotism is taken, there are no Indians. Inside our homes, we are only Tamils and Bengalis and Gujaratis and Muslims and Rajputs and Yadavs, blah blah blah, every dimension of divisionism imaginable. Few are truly and patriotically and holistically Indian anymore at heart, except for administrative purposes? Who needs patriotism? India is free right? Now we can all rush to US or Dubai or Canada or wherever else we can go to. And if we can't, at least we can keep trying for our children.

And are they wrong? Not entirely. Does their country care for them? No! Those who run their country - the central, the state, the local governments - they only care for their own relatives or for people from their own caste or community or the people from their own native villages. They have no vision, no mission except "I must fatten my purse for as long as I am in power, like there's no tomorrow." And for many of our politicians, there is indeed, no tomorrow!

How could there be any sense of belongingness left towards our nation. We are dead in national spirit, except for our nepotistic politicians who care about nothing when they siphon off public money as they award overpriced contracts to their relatives, while saying loudly and vocally in the same breath "Is desh ka kya hoga?" Or, at the other end of the spectrum, our businessmen, from the big industrialist, to the filthy rich real estate builder or stockbroker, or the local retailer or the petrol pump owner - big or small alike, they don't think twice when they go through all sorts of creative accounting and Income Tax officer gifting techniques when it comes to paying back to the nation what is its due, their taxes.

After all, in this country, "Whose father what goes", to quote my ex-boss, whom I still remember and respect.

Sadly, these animals and beasts in the developed nations or Europe and America consume most of the oil of the Middle East and provide oil consultants those salaries.. Sir, you don't exactly have a right to judge people and call them animals and beasts from hell, just because they follow a different faith than your own. And why bring religion into this argument. The author above has written a beautiful article on the the rush of Indians abroad and we should praise her for that, even if we disagree with her, wholly or partly.

India Booming ?
by Dr Sudhansu Sekhar Ghosh on May 12, 2007 05:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Sir,

Hypocracy of politicians are not only prevalent in India but throughout the world. However, the difference is Indian politicians will promise to build a bridge on a river which does not exist and other countries the promise will be on a river. None will fulfil their promise. Other areas where India score over other countries are-

Politicians- Enemies during day time are bossom friends at night.

Police - Rules are not applicable to them.

Babus- Spineless creatures called IAS ( I agree Sir ). Fearful of developing own country as foreign trips will stop.

Gurus- Denounce wealth and indulgence during daytime and amass wealth and indulge at night.

Mr Murthy!
U r living in fools paradise!
I worked in Saudi for 16 years and made my Crores, but I still beleive that my country India is the best place on Earth.
Because Mr Murthy as you know-Ur "pataka" is color "Maroon"-means U r an infidel,a Kafir.
I hope u never fall foul of the law, because when U do,U will need the services of the Indian embassy and Indian government to get Ur head out from Saudi without being beheaded!
By the way-dont bullshit people on this forum about Saudi!
First learn to get out of ARAMCO township and see life of ordinary Saudis-they will cut ur throat for less than 1 riyal.!
Also!Stop writing bad words about INDIA.
Remember-it was the honest Indian taxpayers money that gave U a good education in India,by which U were lucky to get a job in India.
Be a little more humble and respect ur country!
U r an Indian by birth and will remain so even if u buy urself another nationality!
Finally!U r a bloody cheapstake going around trumpeting ur riches!
May god help you in the future!

is really India growing?
by Dragon Cares on May 12, 2007 04:49 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hello guys:
I really can't understand on why so many articles saying "Indian economy is booming". Are these people only talking about metro cities or I.T. cities to show "India is developing fast with growing economy"???? Can anybody think about those increasing number of farmers death? can anybody think about how millions of villages are still lack the basic needs? can anybody think of how common man is struggling to meet both the ends in sky rocketing price increase of every basic commodity? Can anybody think of growing number of un-employed people in our country? I think most of us all just living in the dream thinking "India is developing fast" but the reality is just opposite. People living below the poverty line are getting increased every year; gap between rich and poor are alarmingly widening very fast. More cars dont mean that economy is growing; more BPOs dont mean that economy is growing; more IT companies dont mean economy is growing. Hello guys, think about all other sectors where we are going down very fastly. Millions of our people dont hv proper heath care, dont hv access to water, electricity, education, etc.

Exiting a Booming India
by Nirpinder Singh on May 12, 2007 04:47 PM  Permalink

India must be the World's biggest workshop for Social Engineering. We are a very class conscious people. Witness the craze for AC accomodation, cars, trains, cinemas and malls. It seems that we have lost the will to live in tune with the climate and our native culture. There are good things as well. Laloo Prasad Yadav's intiative allowing train passengers an update to the next higher class if seats are available is commendable. This will let the common person have access to better class train accomodation which might be unaffordable otherwise. The majority look for immediate gratification it seems. Therefore there is a rush to immigrate, rather than stay in India, work hard and reap the rewards over an extended period of time.

More of a show-off
by Satya Mosur on May 12, 2007 04:43 PM  Permalink

The article is very appropriate. The truth is that those thronging to the US give one of the prime reasons to be "relieved" at being far away from relatives as if they camp at each other place everyday in India. Tell me, how many times we visit each other while being in India itself? Where is the time these days? Second reason is to show off among friends and relatives that one lives in US and not in India. To them, being in India is next to "being no good". Its even more filthy when it comes to matrimony....the less said the better.

Phoren fixation
by Mohan Cherukuri on May 12, 2007 04:40 PM  Permalink

Very true. We are still fixated with everything phoren. With so much balack money and undeclared wealth our netas love to be WB & IMF. Likes of PCs instead of unleashing human potential look for western media's cheer for opening up of economy and FDI. Nuclear agreemnt is anothe rsad effort along those lines. Likes of Narayana Murty feel the foreigners are embaraased by singing National Anthem. I lived in the US and neither I nor my Amercian were embarassed by similar action on their land.

Hypocrisy is what describes Indian elite and the politicans.

Middle class wants to just better itslef without upsetting the status quo.

I feel India is booming but then the dehatis are clear in their vision that behind all the hype, lies the uncleared garbage, overflowing sewers, dangerous levels of chemicla pollution, serious environmental damage etc. etc.

While we are brandishing our newfound gadgets pretty soon the roads are going to be clogged and theer will be massive power cuts making the so called development look actually a step backward.

Does anybody agree with me ?
