I remember, all the leaders use to speak against English in public. But their sons were in english medium schools. The question papers in state board Engg/Medical exam(CET) used to be only in English. So it was obivious that only those Idiots sons/douthers were getting chance to qualify that. We are known for GULAM and are very happy doing GULAMI. Most import thing is we in India do not have options. All the companies are MNCs and we have to have english knowledge. In Africa, nothing is left over. Same thing will happen in Asia, south Asia in particular.
This certain Mr.Murthy has the audacity to compare a country like Saudi Arabia with India. I mean, sir, with due respect, I think you lack any rational thinking. And you are blowing your own trumpet about your salary etc. Good for you! But who are you to comment on India? Have you done anything towards is improvement. Where ever we as a country have made a positive stride today, it is due to those people who have had faith and hope. We might not be there yet but we would be soon. Please don't make any doubt. Lot of rubbish has been written about India right from the time she gained independence. These so called Western scholars had doubts if we as a country could exist because of our various religions, castes etc. And countries like Saudi Arabia don't even come into the equation. I am sure when it lands itself in troubled waters, people like you Mr.Murthy would come running back to India. Because not everybody is like you Mr.Murthy, we as a nation have survived. We have fought 5 wars (48,62,65,71,99) but the foundations of this country is still intact. When the ancestors of these first world nations were trying to figure out trivial things in life, empires were flourishing in India. She is just 60 this year, trying to get back where she and her people belonged. So, you keep your Saudis close to your heart and lick them (because that's what Arabs will tell you to do). Dont worry about India. This country is a paradox. Even today people are amazed how can a 100 crore plus country runs on democracy!! But salute to those people who believe in her, who inspite of all odds want to take this nation above all. You guys are the real heroes! And I ( and many, though they might not be on this forum) believe in "us" and not U.S.!

Totally agree with you Vishit. Its a blessing for India that people like Murthy leave Indian shores. (I think is a Mosie or a convert).
We just don't need people like him!! Future of this country will be build by people who believe in her.
Know that there a lot of people out there who think and feel like you. We'll togather make India light of the world.
When America bombs Saudi for Oil...you are most welcome to India!!!
But Let me tell you one important thing!!! Only the residents of a house have the right to criticise the condition of the house.
You have made Saudi your home now. India is not your home now. You don't have a right to criticise your MOTHER's (I MEAN INDIA) so called appallic condition when you have left her to your "so called" less fortunate brothers.
If you have a problem with the situation in India, why didn't you do something about it??
How many times have you voted?? Have you tried to change the Dirty political situation by joining politics?? Did you even try to join the Civil Services such as IAS, IPS, Defence Forces.
You earned Rs.65,000!!! per month. You were in the highest earning bracket for people of your age in India. Your Rs.22,000 as tax was benefiting the Indian population even if 50% of it went to the cause of the population.
Your monthly income in India could have lifted 10-15 people out of poverty by way of your spending.
You could have contributed towards the betterment of this Country had you stayed back.
But...for now...please shut up. Your MOTHER is in safe hands. We will take care good care of her and her children.
By the Way..enjoy your time in Saudi till your wife gets bored of the Burkha's and social restriction. Plus, when they taunt you and harass you for being Hindu (I don't intend to malign our Muslim brothers, but Saudi Muslim is not tolerant like Indian Muslim), you will realise that you were better off being in India!!

Dear Mr. Murthy (if that is your name),
I am also an Oil & Gas professional and I have received and continue to receive many job offers from the Gulf region. But I must confess no one has offered a salary of Rs. 25 lac per month.
However, as far as I am concerned, working in the Gulf is ruled out. Salary is not a consideration. I value my freedom more than anything else and cannot visualise myself living the life of a second rate human being.
I am woring as the Country Manager of an MNC at present have no reason to leave India.
I wish you all the best and request you to please keep in mind that whether to live in India or not is a personal decision. No one has the right to comment on another person's personal decision.
It's time rediff started hiring columnists who have at least completed primary school or know how to use a calculator, if this is asking for too much. The estemeed columnist states that 9.8 million Indian Rupees are equal to $24000 USD. This really jolted me as I wondered whether teh currency has suddenly devaued 10 time overnight? Luckily I was wrong. It was just rediff who probably is short on copy-editing staff let such an egrgious mistake pass. At today's rate of conversion, 9.8 INR amount to $240549 USD. Better luck next time.
Indians have gone to Iraq when war was at peak for work so their is no point u can stop anybody . People are born and groomed to go to US even though life is hell for them. They will prefer washing dishes in UK and earning more than working as a clerk here in India. Tell u the truth if people listen about stories of IITians and IIMs making it big then there are graveyards of unsucessful Indians who went out of India and now have to settle down for anything bcoz they cannot come back to India . (Nothing Left Back Home !!! ) ........... Don't know when the time will come when we Indians will be Indians and not proud NRI's ........ Let the awakening heard !!!

Now Mr.Murthy has exceeded his limits by posting that is not true at all. He probably has not seen KSA in its full glory ;-). There are beggars on streets. There are people in Saudi Arabia who cannot afford a car. Not everyone is rich. Assuming all people in Saudi Arabia are rich is just a cliche. No truth in it.

WHy the hell would I want to live in India, am I foolish like you ????
The direction towads US was more of a millers choice to turn hay and stray into the gold . It was considered to be land of oppurtunities upto now. But now things have changed people in India are earning big bucks .......i mean their startups .......and its a matter of time before india will have a crossover over the wall.....and things will be upside down then ,,,,,.already knowledge workers had taken the batten of this trend .......more carriers are their to follow their trend
I have been reading a lot of articles about India's so called economic boom. But most of the articles are one sided and they are talking about the IT and BPO industries. These two industries hardly represent the Indian economic picture. We have stopped talking about our education, medical, infrastructure, and other things which determine the development of our society. In these sectors India is no better than the poor sub-Saharan African regions. We should stop comparing everything with US or other 'developed' western countries. We are far behind than China in all ythe developmental aspects and we are also behind most of the developed ASEAN countries. Even countries in transition economies like in the eastern Europe (Estonia, Hungary, Poland....) are far better than us in social standards and infrastructure. If we have to compare with some countries then I think we should compare with these countries. There is no glory in saying that we are the largest democracy. When more than 60% of the population cannot read and write and in the rest 40% people are good at only writng their names, there is no meaning of democracy. All corrupted people are taking the benefits of all the development fruits and majority of the population are living in the dark.
RE:Don't compare India and US !
by Suhrud on May 12, 2007 06:04 PM Permalink
Yes Pradipta, our 'boomtime' is actually rather uneven. In fact, people say that the gap between the rich and the poor is actually widening. Socio-cultural development on the other hand is actually worsening. Population and migration to cities is growing out of proportion to the infrastructure, and everything is getting thrown off balance.. There is nothing in India like the uniform development of the US. India has grown in fits and starts, and a 3-D graph of development will only show a hilly contour than an undulated plane. Till the day comes when Indians get immediate attention along the lines of 911, we cannot say we are a developed nation.
Yet, there is no doubt that the IT and BPO sectors do have a bubble effect on the economy. Indeed if you see, salaries across the country have increased, in any sector - be it Finance, Consumer goods or even PSUs. College education costs have increased. Real estate prices have increased and the stock market does not need mentioning. None of this is due to IT alone, but to a general trend of globalization that is sweeping across India. India is today when the SE Asian economies were about a decade or so ago.. And possibly, like their meltdown, we could be headed for one too, since our economy is now so closely linked to that of the rest of the globe..
My fellow Indians, please understand that urs is very old country. Over the time period people of all races migrated to India. Till 16th century perhaps India was one of the best contry in the world. There is no migration out of country since milleniums. It's lords land and there should not be any Visa to any counrty truely speaking. Indians need to rise up to their glorious past instead bending before any country. Have a self respect, God will bestow you what you want.
RE:Nothing wrong with India
by Suhrud on May 12, 2007 05:28 PM Permalink
Very good reply. You are right. Our past was truly glorious. That is why, since Aryan times people have been migrating to India. Alexander, Timurlane, Mahmud of Ghori, Vasco de Gama and Sir Thomas Roe all came to India - mostly to trade, some to pilalge, a few to rule and thousands to stay forever. We are indeed a mix of more races in the world than anywhere else. And Hinduism, that all-embracing socio-economic philosophy has absorbed every migrant race into its social structure and offered its people a position somewhere within society, allocated based on their trade or their abilities.
