Dear Robin
Your wife can apply for PAN card. You and she have to show that she is working/your partner/your employee/something like that. Than she can apply for PAN.

name change
by on Jul 19, 2007 05:26 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

i don't have surname.in my PAN application,i have written my father's name as first name and my name as last name.for example.if the name is s.rajesh where the name of the person is rajesh and father's name is V.Srinivasan,it has been applied earlier as Srinivasan as firstname and rajesh as last name.this is filled up in that way because in school leaving certificate, the name is written as s.rajesh.Kindly advise whether this is right?if not, what is the procedure for change of name in PAN CARD as rajesh srinivasan

Dear Rajesh s/o V Srinivasan. You have ended up in mess. Rectify it as soon as. You go to public notary in your place. Get an affidavit made. Go along with all the proof of your fathers name/his school leaving certificate/his PAN number. Also take all your different certificates bearing different names. Take everything that bears different name. Everything. Ask the notary to make an affidavit. They are expert and they will make an affidavit saying mr x, mr y , mr z are the same person known as sososo.. From now on he will be called as so soso .. Also have to advertise in the local newspaper of the name change/name clarification. Keep a paper cutting/clip with you. With those proof, please apply to tax department for name change. Also for your knowledge -- surname = family name, first name is own name, initial = fathers name = middle name. Good luck. Vishal.

change of name in PAN CARD
by on Jul 19, 2007 05:20 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

PAN CARD asks for fist name, middle name and last name/surname details in the name column.
It is not defined what is fist name, what is middle name and what is last name.In tamilnadu, some communities don't have surname and the name is written with initial. The initial refers to father's name and the name is the person's name.how the name s.RAJESH should be written in the PAN application where the name of the person is rajesh and his father's name is srinivasan?

Too Many Cards
by Ravi Sundararaman on Jul 19, 2007 05:11 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think, it's high time Indian Government start issuing Citizenship Card / Number.
This single card / Number should be referred/linked to everything, instead of having many cards like PAN card, Ration Card, Voter ID, etc., etc..
If the Govt. can spend resources to issue many cards, why not a single card having all details at a stroke.

If i remember correctly, Mr.L.K. Advani spoke about that before coming to power but did not implement the same when in power.

Let Indian Govt make things easier for everyone.

Regards
Ravi Krishnan

PAN FOR NRI
by dharmesh gandhi on Jul 19, 2007 04:02 PM  Permalink

I am NRI.
I have old PAN (10 DIGIT) card with my India Address ( applied when i was indian resident) When I was back in India ( up to 2003) , I was regularly filing Returns with this PA Number.

Now since last 3 years, I have not filed any return because of NRI status & not having any taxable income in India.

NOW , CAN I USE THE SAME PA NUMBER

OR

I NEED TO APPLY FOR NEW PA NUMBER WITH N.R.I. status.

Or Can I change the residence status on old PAN card ??

Dear Sir,

The information is very informative, I have one question that if I am filing return on yearly basis regularly for the last three years, while filing the 4th years return my tax consultant has put wrong No. on saral form, the other things like name, address etc he has rightfully mentioned, while on saral the wrong pan card No is mentioned and the tax amount of rs 1063/ is also deposited in this pan account No.
Now my tax consultant has made a representations containing that due to oversight the PAN No is wrongly mentioned, and requested to adjust the TAX amount in the right pan No.
I just want to know whether this can happen if yes,how can I prove that the mistake is rectified as this wrong pan card No mentioned on Saral form is also effecting my Loan process.
Please guide me.
