I am also unable to understand why not use PAN. And in fact FinMin had also apparently asked this to the concerned people in AMFI etc, ET reported an article also, only to be refuted by banks saying that MIN is still on.... in the meantime the confusion reigns...... I am sure MIN will also go the UIN , MAPIN way
Its high time when government should introduce an unique ID to each individual which is to be mentioned in all of his documents e.g. Income Tax, Driving Lic, Bank Id, Passport, Voter Id, Demat ID, MF ID, Trading ID etc. References may be made from USA Social Security Number (SSN).

Hey Mr Surender Kumar, Please do not recommend for another Security Number. What is the problem with the PAN boss. Let the Govt/FM issue a notification that the PAN is final. Also they have started to delete the duplicate PANs wherein they have also asked the holders with duplicate to come forward for cancellation. So lets stick with PAN for all purposes...... Prabhu
Its so nice for your concern, think if we have a single id, then the corruption will tend to 0%, so many political thugs (oops people working for common man's upliftment!!), hooligans, black-marketeers, so-called elite they will all have trouble baba. Try to understand, for the sake of general welfare of the citizens you cannot ask them to sacrifice their livelihood no!! It would be so unfair, let the common public suffer, what difference will it make? Lets have X number of IN's, I have UIN, now applied for MIN and will wait for the next IN requirement, oh by the way, I have PAN and waiting for the rhyme to start as BAN, CAN, DAN and till ZAN.

USA SSN is not used in Driver Licenses. In a country like US there are cases of identity thefts PAN for all tax purposes is useful. But not on Passports/Driving Licenses

Guys, buy a wallet with more space to hold X number of IN's, we are happy with all the possible number of IN's .. I could think of 26 now, any new idea to more that?
It seems as if government needs external agencies to tell them how things are done and kept in proper place.We are having problem of plenty everywhere now,even in this case.

Dear Subramanian, Why u need GOI to wake-up? Its suffering from that disease what u call ... a person sleeps but roams around everywhere? Sleep-Walking or something like that?
Now is the time for investors to unite and stop subscribing to any new identification gimmick till such time government is geared to them. Investors are treated like flock of sheep to line up before rude officials for investing their own hard earned money. If investors stop lining up, government will come to its senses.

Dear Burjor, Nice suggestion, but where will i invest my money till that period, Its more than 200 years and we have not come to our senses, My astrologer says I can be on this earth for hardly 75 years and me already 35 years old ... what do i do?
When there is PAN for identification where is the need for MIN. If Govt want to implement this system then either open it for all AMC to provide Comman MIN through connectivity and not through a single agency. It can save lot of time of investors and relieve them to contact with SINGLE AGENCY ONLY.

Dear Sanjay, Sanjay means foresight, it's a fact. On my vacation leave, to get my PAN done of Rs. 65/- thru' one of the nodal agency I had to spend Rs. 650/- plus only on Auto Ricksaw, and for the tension of doing this and that ... I keep it to myself. Me being educated in Finance had to undergo 10 times my investment as preliminary expenses. Now take your guess. Imagine a common man taking leave from Office to do his job, he is just jacked for no reason.
