answer to ''What is the need.....?''
by amarkon on Sep 14, 2006 05:59 PM  Permalink

Some communist in the article above asked, "What is the need...", the answer is, the OC's who are denied entry into the elite institutes of India, because of the stupid reservation policy, would like to utilise their talent by joining these universities. When the students with merit are not given an oppurtunity to do research and contribute to the country, they should atleast be allowed to join these institutes and do the research. I am sure when these institutes set up campuses in India, they will never allow the reservation idea to enter their gates. Dr Raja, are u listening??

FDI in education
by Aparna on Sep 14, 2006 03:41 PM  Permalink

I think FDI in education can be considered on a "Cautious Approach". But definitely it has large merits for Indian Economy and Globalisation of Indian Education.

I think Arjun Singh is a moron. After playing caste-based politics in higher education and literally denigrating the entire selection procedure in IITs and IIMs,the man now wants to stop globalising education in India. You may not open up elementary or secondary education for FDI,saying you have the ability to mould young minds and opening that to foreign influences might corrupt the youth n bla bla bla....but higher education in India is seriously in need of an overhaul..the Universities do not have enough funding to pursue research proposals...and its true that a lotta ppl are goin to N.America for their higher studies coz masters and PhD courses in India suck big time.if you allow foreign universities to set up campuses in India, theres a possibilty of this trend going down. All the people who decry about brain drain n everything should actually be supporting this.....I myself am planning to apply to the US for my masters course....if I can get the same level of education in India....one it would be cheaper for me n I dont need to go like 10000 miles away from my family....plz somebody talk sense into Mr HRD Minister though

Against FDI in education
by ANANYA on Sep 14, 2006 02:52 PM  Permalink

Please do not treat India's education as a profit gaining industry,India has many other sectors to make profits and boost Indian economy.India's culture and society will be at stake if foreign investors come into the playschool areas where our country's future buds.If they teach their culture to our kids ,where will Indian culture exist 20 years from now?????Mr. Prime Minister please think about it

Foreign Universities.
by balajee on Sep 14, 2006 02:08 PM  Permalink

It is good to know that we are opening up our education to the foreign universities. Well the HRD minister must be snubbed in the nose since he has been opposing this since he wants to bring reservation into education. Let Arhun Singh send his son & daughters and grand children to the indian universities. Let the others who do not have place to study in the indian education system avail the foreign education.

Let the HRD minister impose restrictions on the foreign hands and let us see how these foreigners teach the reservations a lesson.

Divide and split India is the rule of our politicians.

Time to wake up
by Supriyo on Sep 14, 2006 01:47 PM  Permalink

I am disappointed to see this news. I have a strong feeling that Arjun Singh is the wrong man, and he needs to be moved. He has a mindset of the last century, and is completely out of sync with the modern world. He is anti-meritocratic, as his penchant for various kinds of controls and reservations show, and the education system he wants to build will be only good in producing babus [in line with the good old specifications of the British Raj].

The FDI in education will be needed to let India move up the global value chain, beyond BPO and as a source of knowhow and innovation. It will foster competition, allow the best to be the best. If government is really serious about education, they should tax the profits the new institutions make, and plough that money in back into building primary education infrastructure.

I would not comment about left parties. I come from west bengal, and seen the disaster they brought about in education. I would recommend that they should not be turned for guidance for education policies, as their records will show that they are not very good at it.

FDI in Education
by V S Chakravarthy on Sep 14, 2006 01:16 PM  Permalink

May be Mr. Arjun would agree for FDI if reservations are allowed in these institutes. The government has in any case failed in providing Primary education and allowed private persons/ trusts to run private schools and thay had been minting money for providing education the standards of which is not commensurate to the fees being collected. Then why not allow FDI so that there is competetion and atleast the current and future generations will have some decent school education as well as graduate eduacation. Let the doors be opened and competetion be welcomed. The arguements of Mr. Arjun and the Left regarding culture attack is nothing but bullshit. Obviously you can not be developing and maintaining culture from the so called education being imparted from dilapidated, without black board, without teacher and without basic toilet facility government schools. And what culture are we developing from the private schools who only mint money, or minority schools. Neither these people provide good schools nor they allow. This is nothing but a sort of talibanisation. And since when we have started comparing and trying to emulate the Muslim nations in field of education, Mr Arjun Singh?
