I agree. After M.B.A. I have been in civil service from last eight years and I have come to the conclusion that the type of leadership depends on the inborn qualities and the development of personality over the years. However the type of leadership varies from situation to situation. It comes out only when the managers live in the true situation. The training in management institutions makes prifit-oriented managers but not situation -oriented administrators.Administrators in real sence live in markets mould themselves as per demnd of the people.
Sir, Forget B-schools...Can you tell me a place where people skill can be taught. If not then why blame B-schools. Infact B-schools do teach people skill formally and more importantly informally. Here are 500 souls on campus from across India and even outside India. Working with them for group projects and assignments, organising big events etc do teach a bit of people skill. As far as execution is concerened, I do agree that the time crunch and excessive work load does not allow students to reach the level of execution. However, they make up for this drawback in their summer training and various live projects.
I agree. I have served in the Army for 25 years took part in kargil war too... and now in the corporate world for two years....the younger managers are indeed short on leadership....especially dealing with people... they are soft/physically also weak.... and not trained adequalitly to deal with real life tough situations......to this extent army lays a lot of stress and trains too in its own way..... thanks
I would like to kindly highlight some facts, which prove that, Management Schools do, inculcate Leadership Skills.
TO start with, I am a Student of Welingkar Institute of Management Development, Mumbai, and I have really seen the various attempts by my college, to imbibe the spirit of Leadership, among its students. Infact, we have a subject, which treads on the aspect of LEadership through Literature and also, there is a special curriculam, which is dedicated to HIGH PERFORMANCE LEADERSHIP....
All these, try to identify the traits, which the students have, that can make them into better efficient leaders tomorrow.
The institute itself has demonstrated its Leadership skills by being a pioneer in many things, including the launch of many courses, which have been designed understanding the changing dynamics of the industry.
And the institute strongly believes that, Leadership can play a pivotal role in overall development of the Educational System.

Hi,
It is true that many B.Schools 'teach' leadership and what are the stles. But no teacher can teach us what are effective traits since no leadership style or trait is bad or good.
We need to adopt or change from time to time based on the necessity.

Well leadership is definitely an inborn quality, neither it can be inculcated nor imbibed.Great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi were never taught, they were born leaders, also same goes for Dhirubhai Ambani and Narayan Murthy.
