Arjuna was a super hero not because of only himself, it is because Drona was the best instructor one could ever have.
It might not be possible for a training institute / management org to completely transform an individual to a leader, but such places help us discover our hidden traits and make us realise that we would ideally succeed in such n such environments.
For example, every one knows how to kick a football among all players... but people like zidanne or ronaldinho emerge because they know in a better way how to make use of the coaching in their own ways
So, according to me, without guidance of coaching in B-Schools you cannot be complete leader. Yes, you could be an average leader (or proclaim yourself as one)
Leadership is surely not to be taught in any B schools. Yeah it is inbuilt abbility of every individual to perform in the style. But there are circumstances around him which creates hurdles to adopt those leadership traits.
I am agree that B-school don't teach leadership skill but they teach whta should leader has do. Particular in MBA course the teacher don't know what is the definition of leader. they all teach the what should leader has do but in reality something is different because of the teacher/professior is teach the thing in the book not what is reality. so that naturally the student has develop the leadershp skill in their own way and the positively the teacher is the tool that they find the way and last the student has to walk in this way.
Definately nobody can teach you leadership skills, but the situation does, some management institutes do make it a point that a real life business environment is created in the school and hence an idea of what the world outside is about is given to the students, but there comes the requirement of the right kind of moulding.
An MBA institute may be successful in doing so by the summer internship project that the student undergoes, and hence it cannot be straightaway said that these qualities are not experienced by the student. The exposure is definatly there..
The author is only looking at ALL the B-schools for the lens of Punjab University. He needs to raise his head and see how the B-schools are changing the courses to meet the current demands.
There is a lot of emphaiss on Global Business, Leadership, 360 degree feedback, working with teams, opportunity to know you management sytle etc.
give us a break rediff.com by posting such junk articles.. you know people who just give gyaan about flaws and cribs about being an MBA is that they themselves havent been able to get through any B school,,and are from som crapy uni's..and have always been taken to task by their bosses who wud be an MBA,,
I feel this is true. I work with lot of B-school guys, they are selfish (there are exceptions), they are money-minded. I strongly believe that one cannot be Leader by attending a B-school. It requies lot of experience. Just learning the Management you cann't be leader. Leader must be visionary and without experience you cann't vision for future. Just reading and studying few book don't mean a leader.
Person must have following qualities
Partnership and voice Vision and values Knowledge and daring Savvy and persistence Personal qualities (passion, humor, and empathy strength of character, general maturity, patience, wisdom, common sense, trustworthiness, reliability, creativity, sensitivity)
I agree. After M.B.A. I have been in civil service from last eight years and I have come to the conclusion that the type of leadership depends on the inborn qualities and the development of personality over the years. However the type of leadership varies from situation to situation. It comes out only when the managers live in the true situation. The training in management institutions makes prifit-oriented managers but not situation -oriented administrators.Administrators in real sence live in markets mould themselves as per demnd of the people.
