A stretch limousine driving through a ghetto

The world can ill-afford a global health system which, without parallel in history, concentrates on a few and neglects billions of people who carry on the largest burden of disease. An unparallel genocide.

This was a quote from Dr C.L. Onen, Botswana

2340 doctors per 10,000?
by Paul on Dec 04, 2006 09:09 AM  Permalink

2340 doctors per 10000 means one out of evry 4 person is a doctor in US. Seem to be a typing error.
In any case there is huge potential for health care industry in India.

Out of common mans reach

True John, these are expensive hospitals. But the answer to that argument is going to be that there still are 50 million Indians who can afford these hositals so why should they be deprived of getting healthcare services in an environment where they are comfortable. They are as much Indian citizens as the other 950 million (per your classification). Certainly there is no denying that the other 950 million need to be attended to appropriately as well and am sure efforts are on in that regard

Re: five star health care

Something should also be done to ensure that the quality of the doctors in these five star hospitals is also five star.... they should go through an acid test before being allowed to join here..

Great Hospitals
by Ganesh on Dec 02, 2006 11:53 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think one of the first private hospitals that started providing high quality care to people is KMC Manipal. They have been doing this since 60's. Though there are no five star facilities and mainly built for students, the quality of care has been great especially affordable to all people.
It is unfortunate that five star culture is growing and widening the gap between have's and havenots. In fact I would say even the upper middle class who could afford most of the facilities may now be categorized as they cannot afford five-star care nor can they ask for financial assistance.
It is high time these hospitals start affordable choices for others. Otherwise simmering social discontent may grow in to class strugle and devour the progress

Wrong data
by Kishore on Dec 02, 2006 09:36 PM  Permalink

"India has only 43 doctors for every 10,000 people as compared to the 2,340 doctors per 10,000 people in the US"

- Your stats 1 in 4 of the US population are doctors. This absolutely wrong. Please check the data before publishing.
