Multiple ID cards
by cooler on Feb 08, 2005 09:28 PM  Permalink

Hi,

I read your article and it provides insight into the issues surrounding the process of identification.
Like you correctly pointed out, too many id's need to be carried, unlike the US, where a single Social security number is valid. At the same time one needs to be cognizant of the fact the Social security number was a number designed only for tax purposes and was eventually used for all kinds of purposes. This has resulted in its misuse. You cant live without it at the same time making it very difficult to protect your number resulting in the increase of ID theft cases.

We should take the best of both the worlds. One solution would be to have a unique TAX ID like the PAN and one more id for all other purposes. This helps reduce the number of ID cards as well as help reduce the theft/misuse of these ID's.

Basically we people or atleast POWERS THAT BE ARE VERY NON-TRUSTING AS A WHOLE. For every purpose, they need a differnent kind of assurance ofidentity, residence etc. Passport is considered a rather authenticproof of identity and residence, but what about those who manage to get more than one and most are fake and obtained for fraudulent reasons. If at allthere should be a National Identity Card(not a passport) and any change in residence should be mandatory to be reported to the authorities. I suppose that would eleminate the need for multiple typres of identity proofs.

Hi

I completely agree with you. This kind of multiplicity in identities is actually a very easy way for someone to beat the system.Countries like the US / Singapore etc have a single ID for every national born there/ visits the country. it helps in easily tracking apersons entire life/ credit/ financial /etc etc history.

As for the advice on investing in photo cos, well i am gonna place my buy order with my agent..

Further to your article we also hold ATM cards (one per bank) and Credit cards. We have cards for entry to clubs. On special projects or project sites we have a second card for our entry permit.

With in-fashion ribbons holding cards loosely hanging from around our neck we shall soon have to colour codes for various cards and one more ribbon for mobile phones. Even attending a good seminer make us sport one more ribbon around neck to declare I am innnn.

Mankind has just started developing card culturs. Surely future generations shall have many more coloured ribbons to boast for all he is doing. All are basically ID cards.

Good Luck. ..............
