tips on success
by viswanath on Feb 06, 2005 06:19 PM  Permalink

These tips are relevant in India, but with family controlled enterprises; the application of these concepts will be difficult. The Indian companies have to adopt consumer friendly policies and take long term view of growth. Their focus is now on quick profit and not long term growth. The family drama at Reliance is an indication of the kind of m,anagement techniques adopted by the company. The overall atmosphere has to change, whether it is the government or the industrialists, a total attitudinal change over is needed.Professional decisons based on organisational need and capacity have to be taken. Union pressures and political pressure should not toally guide the decision.

BSC Another addition to the troop of existing concepts on Business.
by Y. Srinivas on Feb 05, 2005 01:44 AM  Permalink

Hi All,

This BSC looks like an addition to the troop of existing concepts in the field of Business Management. For more, pls refer Chapter 12: "Army of Consultants but no one to help" from Jack Trouts Classic BIG BRANDS BIG TROUBLE. You can find 90 kinds of differetn concepts listed there, some of which I have even neve heard of. This is one more addition to that list.

Harvard Guru's tips on Success
by UV Vamsi Krishna on Feb 03, 2005 07:32 PM  Permalink

Dear Sir,

The article has been informative. But could be please throw some more light on "The Substance". What it exactly means and what does it comprise of ?

Balaced Score card, theoretically is fine to observe, but I personally feel that there would be requirement of huge data and its analysis. Is it really possible to apply BSC in Indian scenario where data recording is incoplete and unsystematic?

The Balance Scorecard
by Rajesh A on Feb 03, 2005 05:15 PM  Permalink

The BSC is good as a concept, but most of its' value is overstated. The whole thing about it is like Aditya Birla's single page statement. Most companies however do not know what to put in there, as Peter Drucker said, most of the time there are no objectives - so also none appear as such on the BSC. Today most companies want to be in on that one so as not to be left behind in terms of new management concepts as also it helps create a change management scenario (which can be both good or bad situationally and intent-wise)which will turn around the parameters of performance for some length of time and skew ROI thinking.

Thisis another and one more theory from a learned Harvard Professor. We get such theoroms almost everyday and confused the student, professor, customer vendor or an ordinary employee. If you bundle all the theories, you get nowhere. They should give live case studies in short paragraphs and convince us how the theory brought more sales, profitability, customer satisfaction, employee happiness, more revenue to government etc.
