Will BPO face staffing crisis?
by Hitesh Chadha on Dec 23, 2005 02:12 PM  Permalink

continued..
I waited for abt 2 months and I was still ding the same work their was no VALUE ADDITION. This was the case when I was the top performer on the floor. Then 1 day I decided to leave and resigned. When I was going my manager said that he can create more people like me. I just gave him a piece of my mind and came back home. Then I decided to join another BPO company. There also the same story. I started performing right from the word GO. Received certificates of appreciation there also. But sadly my job profile remained the same. I resigned from there also. I took a break and prepared for the management entrance tests.
At this point of time I am feeling quite relaxed and I waiting for some good calls to come. I am very confident of converting them also. I would agree with the author of the above article that in few years we will have lots of people with no added skills. There will be a theart of thier job being taken over by some other cheap labour providing country. I would suggest the young people today to think abt long term gains. Plan ur career. Do not get lured by the money in BPO. Go for ur post graduation. Education is must.

Cheers
Hitesh

Will BPO face Staffing crisis?

cont....
we had to take calls for 6 hrs and for the rest of the 2 hrs we will assist the team leader in making cab arrangements, learning how to make future startergies, managing our own team of 4-5 agents. I was very excited to achieve this designation. I worked my **s of to maintain the performance and metrices as the competetion was tough. Eventually I was eligible to apply for that post. The whole process of selection looked very sophisticated. We were even interviewd by the Director of the process. In the end I was selected and I was one of the 10 people chosen from 650 agents. But the fate had something else in store for me. None of us were given those responsibilities. None of us were allowed to do anything extra other than calling. Sadly my profile remained same.I didn't learnt anything new in my 1 year stint as being a Sr rep. When I complained to the manager he just shrugged of by saying that the company has decided to put that thing on hold for "some" time. When I asked uptill when, he said he dodn't know. But he said that we have to continue doing the same work and sadly again my profile remained the same even after putting a brilliant performance.

Will BPO face staffing crisis?

I would like to congratulate Rediff for putting up such articles. I think we should take initiative to take print outs of this article and put it on the notice board of all the colleges in the country. I think it's an eye opener and will help a lot young people in managing thier career.
I would like to explain with my own example. I have an exp of more than 2 yrs in the BPO industry. I have worked with some of the best companies aroung( one of them being the Big Blue) When I enetrd this industry I was not sure of my career path. I got aquainted with the way BPO works. I started performing well and became St Tech Support Executive in 1 yr. Though my job profile remained the same. Things were working fine for me. I kept putting up excellent performance. Won a lot of appreciation certificates and letters. I was also responsible for contributing for the development of the support for a fortune 500 client for which we were working for. But my job profile remained same taking calls 8hrs a day.
The management was very happy with me. Then I got an opputrtunity to move up a small step. The company came out with a unique designation. The profile was different from a regular caller cont..

BPO in India is temporary
by Hari Devarapalli on Dec 21, 2005 08:03 PM  Permalink

You are very right on what is going to happen. But the reason is half true. There is another reason behind this globalization what happened to central america in automobile industry and other BPO opportunities , it is going to happen to india. And in a way that is want the masterminds behind globalization intend to see happen.

They want to have human computers without brains. So called technical people become under skilled as soon as their job is autmated. Thus the people need career change as it happens now in USA ( on average 4-5 careers fpor an average person. A school teacher also works in walmart to support family income.

bpo staffing crisis
by srinivas.nr on Dec 21, 2005 02:10 PM  Permalink

I think the BPO will definitely undergo staffing after the recent rape and murder case. The employers should ensure proper security to their employees whether he or she. The reponsibility of securing the employees should be shouldered by their respective employers.
