Bottle driving ...
by Ashok Varma on Jun 19, 2008 10:45 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Drunk-driving accidents happen because a drunk-driver fails to realise that it is the bottle that is driving and not him.

drunken driving
by Dwaraka Nath on Jun 18, 2008 02:27 PM  Permalink

rich parents have no time to educate their children. they have left their children to their fate. India is a country of young and if the present status continues, God save the country and what type of future citizens we will have. First parents should behave in the society, when I see the page 3 in news columns, I find that the rich wants to show their wealth and irresponsible behavious and how they can properly educate their children. youngsters getting drunk because of parents behaviour. my suggestion is that the parents of youngsters who drive drunken should be arrested and the vehicle should be confiscated.

Drink and Drive
by SREENATH KAKADASAM on Jun 18, 2008 09:33 AM  Permalink

We have seen a number of accidents in the recent past. In almost all the cases, the person driving the vehicle was drunk. When the whole population has been aware of the fact that driving after drinking is bad and dangerous, why still young brats drive after drinking and also drive carelessly. Because they have big daddy to help them out by money and influence. Police are also to be blamed as they do not take immediate and serious view of the accidents caused by the drunken driving. They have their own axe to grind so wait for the right moment to make a kill and make money. Unless we are more serious and put all these brats in prison, make a fool proof case against them and do not give them bail and punish them with life imprisonment for killing due to the accident caused by them and ten years for causing injury, nothing will happen. We will see more accidents and deaths and injuries to the poor innocent people.

Since you drink a lot, therefore you don't know your real age. You are in your 20's and you look like 105. You do not have any control on your vehicle and, because you are drunk, you are in illusion that you are driving like Schumaker.
Stop drinking su much. Otherwise, not only Schumaker but a shoe maker will drive much better than you.

Am a 89-year old teetotaller and have a vacancy for a driver. I dont mind hiring you; however its only fair to warn you that the driver's seat and steering joystick in my designer-car is ahead of its bonnet on the front bumper.
Care to apply, Old Man?
(Bring your own helmet if hired!)
Eh!

alcohol
by prabha on Jun 17, 2008 07:52 PM  Permalink

If you put forward laws against alcohol drinking the PM and other politicians has to go to jail first. Eventhough it is not good for health why they are allowing companies to sell this in india. Abolish liquor totally from india. Is anybody can do this? Govt is running behind money not the caring the poor indian's health. See another eg. usage of cell phones are not good for health too. I read an article published in rediff "the 10 top challange for india", if we use cell phones like this most of our young generation is become useless with the radiation attacks and accidents due to the cell phone usage and india won't acheive its dream in future. So our govt should take actions against these things to protect our country and you generation. You are indebted to it. It is your duty to protect our country and not let others to use our country as their trash can again.

normal course of justice missing - fine and imprison impartially
by raj on Jun 17, 2008 07:33 PM  Permalink

there is zero enforcement, rich and famous can still get away. unless there's media intervention there's no normal course of justice. also, media goes overboard sometimes, as like in the case of padmapriya, who was watching tv9 (and the channel was still on when they broke open the door). tv9 had fancy titles thats nothing short of sensationalism and utter shamelessness in capitalizing on others misfortunes. its pure greed and opportunistic behavior. we need accountability

drunk drivers
by Ley DeFigs on Jun 17, 2008 05:27 PM  Permalink

If an accident occurs where a fatality results, the driver if legally under the influence of alchohol, must be charged with "assualt with a deadly weapon", the weapon being his car, whether or not the accident was his faullt.

Perhhaps only then will people refrain from drinking abd driving.

Implementation
by pradosh mitter on Jun 17, 2008 05:12 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Like the post by Priyanka earlier, the law is fine, the implementation is wrong.

If the implementation of the law is done strictly, the number of these incidents is sure to come down. A person without a driving licence can get out of the offence by paying 50 bucks. Even a rash driver, or drunk driver can get out of being jailed or even booked, by paying a few hundred rupees (not much, considering that they'd have already spent a few thousand getting drunk/high).

This goes for all sorts of road related offences. Why do our policemen take bribes from such OBVIOUS offenders then? The salary they get from the govt. must be pathetic.

Maybe, just maybe this bribing culture problem could be solved if our policemen are paid GOOD salaries? A cop who pulls up a drunk driver won't be tempted to let him go with a 500 rupee bribe, since he doesn't need it!

(I say 'Maybe' here because there's no guarantee that the cop won't take a bribe even with a good pay; but it could surely help the state of affairs!)
