It is not good in any form as it disturb the mindset of student. It create fear which ultimately lead to worst scenario.I have not been ragged but what i have heard/read has terrified me.Hence strict control is required.
Ragging is a sort of formal introduction of juniors to seniors and vice-versa...In moderation its fun and the junior also gets a senior as a friend.. More likely it can be called as a Personality Development Program(PDP). The one getting ragged gets to show off his talent by convincing the senior that he is a matured candidate who can take care of himself.. Now, all those sissy people who complain on so called 'ragging' can't raise to the situation to draw a line to limit it.

I have been a past student of IIT Mumbai Don't tell about ragging You need to be sent behind bars undr Indian constitution Note that ragging is an offence under IPC and people have been sent to prison for that Mind your language Do not try to intimidate and break Indian Penal code by suppoting ragging Apologise for that gopal chaphekar
Ragging is a way by which seniors show off their power by humiliating juniors. It is just a convenient way for them to display their sadistic and pervert nature. The harassed juniors often support the seniors because of Stockholm syndrome, and often because they want to practice it themselves. One doesn't need to rag in order to get friendly with juniors. It is only a hypothetical barrier: "If you don't get ragged, we won't help you."

What is ur problem for somebody being a teacher it looks ur childhood teachers spared a rod and spoiled u
Ragging is abuse and all abuse is bad. No justification whatsoever in support of this.
If India has to progress as a civilised country then all uncivilised practices need to be stopped. Ragging is one uncivilised practice, which is the starting point for what latter is called Mob Mentality.

Please note a crime is a crime in limit or more Ragging is crime punishable with rigorous imprisonment under Indian constitution Gopal chaphekar
The term ragging has been misinterpreted and misused in the course of time. Taken in positive spirit and done in a healthy way, ragging or "informal introduction" can go a long way in shaping a fresher's outlook. This is the unofficial platform which provides an opportunity to a fresher to interact with the seniors, to know the culture, to know about do's and don'ts, and also to find his/her role model in some of the seniors. The rigirous and probably not-so-good interaction during the ragging time bring a person closer to the so called ragger; and this can help the ragged in getting all kind of guidance, support and confidence later. Also this improves the bonding among the freshers as they also get to know each other well, see everyone treated almost in a similar fashion. Any kind of indifferences in their attitude, feeling of coming from different backgrounds, different financial conditions and different cultures also go away when all of them interact informally, and this informal discussion brings in them a sense of being from one family, where they are going to stay for next few years. Overall, if ragging doesn't cross a limit, where the ragged starts feeling uncomfortable and hurt, it is okay. So let's have that healthy informal interaction in order to improve ourselves and make us better practical persons.

I am completely agre with you. The mental ragging really make a brilliant sudent with dull character more smarter. And, these students learn how to be more practical and otherwise these students will be only Book-Worm.

no it doesnt... lots of ppl are not ragged in college bt are much prepared to get ragged in the real world..
I am able to see a lot of pro and against ragging messages in this forum. Having been through ragging myself this is strictly my personal opinion and in no way is binding on others in this forum. I joined a college in my hometown and we were subject to ragging for almost 8 months . Ragging was at times way too indecent and most of the times it was fun (like rowing on the road , riding a bike with just sounds and singing or dancing!). The only other rule we had to wear chappal everyday to college except for the days when we had to wear shoes for our labs. Those days were quite tough for us, but then once it was over, I got to know the real value behind it - developing friendships and true to the word there are many seniors with whom am in touch even today!
When it was my turn to be a senior, I never ragged anybody even though I did call up a few juniors and asked their name and stuff(I dont think asking for the name and stuff is ragging!)
However our juniors and us never shared any sort of understanding or friendship and the only reason I could think of until this moment is because "We did not rag them"
Just one point to end - anything within a decent and clear limit is not harmful. This does hold true for all the things in our life - drinks, food, money , relationships , and of course ragging!

SO JOEL WHAT UR SAYING IS THAT RAGGING IS ONLY WAY TO MAKE FRIENDSHIP WITH UR SENIORS.. I KNOW NOT A LOT ..BT A FEW SENIORS..WHO ARE STILL MY FRIENDS..AND THEY NEVER RAGGED ME.. SO ITS TOTALLY ABSURD AND IRRELEVANT WHEN U AND OTHER SAY THAT IT BONDS SENIORS AND JUNIORS...

OK U RE SAYING THIS COZ UR A GIRL... AND NO..WE WILL NOT LEAVE U ALONE .. U WILL GET RAGGED IN THIS FORUM..THOUGH IM AGAINST IT.. BT WHN IT COMES TO GIRLS..I DONT MIND..
Ragging is definitely not bad, but it must be made sure that limits are not exceeded. Last year, I had been in the first year of my college life and I had been ragged for about a week or so... It definitely brought me closer to my seniors and now I'm really feeling happy for having got such wonderful people as my seniors(for treating me equally as a friend)...
By the way, I must also tell that they didn't harass or torture me in the name of ragging... I suggest it is better to adjust with the seniors for a week or so, and I assure you that you'll feel happy in the future that this has brought you with your seniors to a closer proximity...
P.S. I have a few friends in my class who didn't co-operate while being ragged, they do not have a good relationship with the seniors...
