I am able to see a lot of pro and against ragging messages in this forum. Having been through ragging myself this is strictly my personal opinion and in no way is binding on others in this forum. I joined a college in my hometown and we were subject to ragging for almost 8 months . Ragging was at times way too indecent and most of the times it was fun (like rowing on the road , riding a bike with just sounds and singing or dancing!). The only other rule we had to wear chappal everyday to college except for the days when we had to wear shoes for our labs. Those days were quite tough for us, but then once it was over, I got to know the real value behind it - developing friendships and true to the word there are many seniors with whom am in touch even today!
When it was my turn to be a senior, I never ragged anybody even though I did call up a few juniors and asked their name and stuff(I dont think asking for the name and stuff is ragging!)
However our juniors and us never shared any sort of understanding or friendship and the only reason I could think of until this moment is because "We did not rag them"
Just one point to end - anything within a decent and clear limit is not harmful. This does hold true for all the things in our life - drinks, food, money , relationships , and of course ragging!
