Before the interview day:
1.) Visit the venue and try and feel comfortable- Eat, talk and phone, smoke- just pass some time there- you will feel an experienced person next day and much familiar.
2.) In GD- Believe me or not- Speaking is more important than listening- Just remember one line- IF I DO NOT SPEAK GOOD- I DO NOT GET SELECTED.
3.) Dont be short of sleep at any cost..

Tips
by naresh on Jan 24, 2007 10:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hi

To all those who have got the calls for GD and interviews, I have the following tips:

1. Appear smart and fresh for the GD & interview

2. In the GD, maintain your cool, posture, and modulate your voice well. Admission coordinators look for team players, candidates with original ideas & analytical skills, and quick thinkers.

3. Do not attempt to garner attention during the GD. Be your natural self.

4. If you are carrying your certificates / degree etc. for the interview, ensure to organize them well.

5. Do not fake up your answers in the interview. Be honest if you do not know the answer.

6. If you have any work experience, be well prepared to answer questions pertaining to your work. Typically, an interview might go for 30 minutes.

7. Thank the interview panel while closing the interview, but do not appease them at any stage.

8. If you have your opinion and views, be firm, but not arrogant. They sometime try to provoke you or stress you out.

All the best, and more later on tough (yet, wonderful) life at campus.

Hi

I got a mail asking me on how look smart. Few tips (which also indicate how minutely you get observed on these aspects in PI / GD)

For guys:

1. Your shirt and trousers should be ironed, without any kind of spots or wrinkles.

2. Wear light pastel coloured shirt. White works the best; light blue, light grey / fawn / cream colour are also fine. Trousers should be dark, in color tones like blue, black, steel grey, brown etc. Tie should be subtle, dark in colour. Avoid tie with loud prints or checks or shining material.

3. Shoes should be black - no other colour please. Preferably, wear formal black shoes, the ones with laces. Polish is a must. Carry 1-2 tissue papers with you, so that once you reach the venue, you can wipe the dust off your shoes.

4. Socks should never be white. Never. The color should be same as that of trousers, or fusing between color of trousers and your black shoes.

5. Belt is necessary - black color only. No loud buckle please.

6. Carry a good pen in your front shirt pocket, clipped on the right edge of pocket.

7. Please remember to button up the shirt well, including the collar buttons.

8. A small cologne could be helpful - fresh up yoursefl on reaching the venue.

9. Carry a hanky too. A small pocket comb as well - comb your hair on reaching there. Wrist watch is a must.

11. Clip your finger nails.

For girls:

1. Wear the dress you are most comfortable in - it could be a saree, salwar suit, or western suit.

2. Please wear the footwear in accordance to dress you are wearing. It should be polished / clean; try to wear the one that does not make noise while walking.

3. Light, natural make-up is nice.

4. If a western dress is there, shirt should be white.

5. Hair should be neatly tied up.

6. Carry a small hanky, few tissue papers.

7. Watch is a must.

Cheers
Naresh

GD/PI TIPS
by ARADHANA RISHI on Jan 24, 2007 09:23 AM  Permalink

FOR GD- Try to initiate if you have a strong hold on the topic. Mediate and help to resolve conflicts, that arise during the course of the discussion. Encourage silent candidates to express their views.
FOR PI- Stay calm & confident. Don't beat around the bush if you aren't sure of an answer. Maintain excellent eye contact;it depicts confidence and honesty. Don't forget to thank the interviewer(s) in the end.
All the best!

GD:
1.remember GDs are meant to test your leadership and behavioural skills, managerial and coordination abilities, analytical skills, and not solely your knowledge base and definitely NOT ur voice levels.
2.enter early with an universally acceptable point with a small and quick example.'ve as many entries as possible with different points/ substantiating ur points/ counter-points of others/ taking up others points etc. Always ensure u r listening others and 've a say on them.
3. NEVER TALK CRAP. if u donno much, its fine. tell whatever u know or give exaples for other points w/o tellin that u r givin ex. to Mr.X's point.
4.try to be a leader or a co-ordinator or atleast helping the leader. its ok if somebody has quickly taken up the leader role. don't sulk and bitch at him. assist him and take an active secondary role by simultaneously making ur points.
5.if there is a cartel formed already, don't get lost, have ur points say whenever there a blink of gap.
6.accept valid criticism/ counter point. and always say that u r able to see a point in other's argument. that's a leader is supposed to be.
7.ur points 'ld be crisp, logical with a quick example. if any one interrupts u in such a scenario its negative point to them. but if u are draggin and braggin and any one interrupts u, that's a positive point to him.
8. many of the points mentioned by others in this forum are also valid

PI
1.its easy to expect atleast 50-60% questiosn in PT. if u answer smartly and with a structure, u can xpect 80% of questions
2. 've set of points under which questions fall - personal, hobbies, work-ex, purpose of mba and role after mba, family, acads, etc.
3.prepare questions under each heading and 've a few lines of answers/ points
4.don't drag-on ur replies. coherent,sweet.
5.expect questions on application of ur acads. e.g. a mech engr on types of engines avialbe in indian cars etc.
6.know the famous guys in ur hobbies. readin news paper is NOT a hobby but is expected out of u. readin a biz newspaper/mag is expected frm every candidate. atleast an attempt to read is must.
7.never get stressed or lost in a PI
