Instead of worldspace radio i would recomment to go for either DTH DD direct plus or DTH tata sky where you have lot of radios which are free to listen. and that too dth tata sky is comparatively reasonable regarding rates.
I have been using Worldspace for the past one year. Recently, I renewed the subscription.
Worlspace is a boon for people who stay in far away places. One of the best things about the radio is that it is operable all over India. Your location can be a far away forest or in the city. All you need is an open view of the sky.
I have to say, the music played is top class. Though I do not listen to much of hindi songs, I feel surprised at times when they play melodious songs that they probably dig up from their archive.
For people into western music, this is Godsent. It has so many international channels, its difficult to keep track. I am mostly into western music, thats why, it suits me.
If you are only into Hindi film music, I must tell you Worldspace does not offer much channels. But the one that they offer beats any of the FM stations anyday because of the content quality. How you balance the content vis-a-vis thats offered by local radio stations, you decide.
Another thing -- if you usually find yourself glued to TV, it is unlikely that you would come to like Worldspace. Its of less use to people who cant stand without their daily feed of television.

Actually a t.v. is a t.v. in which you can see things ,how can you ccompare radio in which you can only hear ; Also with 40 channels 24 hours one just cannot have it ON all the time practically it is not possible you will get insane plus who is saying that it is not commercialised and there is no advertiments , please check up for the reality truth.
I have been using a Hitachi set for worldspace reception and I could just go on n on about how wonderful worldspace is. once you choose your stations and committ them top memory therre are no glitches with reception or weather static.....all history, that. The range available is so vast that you are spoilt for choice unlike in other systems. The reception clarity pricing ,everything is superior to all radio Ive ever known especially if you live in the country like I do. 3 years of worldspacing has had me hooked. Please try or ask me for more. /Jayant
Yes I do. Recently I have renewed annual subscription. It is really wonderful experience without being disturbed by irritating commercials in between the songs. The Radio Jockeys are really professionals and present the programmes very well. With choice of dedicated channels I am sure it suits every body. It's no wonder, good music comes with a cost. One who is serious of good music should pay for it.
I have worldspace and this is my personal experience.
I am living in Europe and I thought it would be a good idea for me to buy worldspace as i can listen to indian channels. I brought worldspace damb-r receiver and subscription from worldspace coughing couple of hundred euros. According to worldspace, this receiver can be used in car and has a built in radio transmitter. all is true. but, performance is pathetic. i cant receive the signal when the car is moving and it is frustrating to use it in your car. It works perfectly when connected at home.
overall, channels are good though i could listen to only 3 indian hindi music channels from here. sun rise and east fm are good. but, i have serious reservation on jhankaar. though it is the only hindi music channel from India, the songs are rubbish. they play horrendous songs sungs by kumar sanu and his jhankaar beats party which makes me sick.. it literally takes me backs to early 90's. It could also be due to i am listening them when it is midnight in india and very few turn on radio at that hour.. anyways my vote is 50/50.. if you are living in india, its better off listening to local fm than worldspace.

Boss, leaving aside the technical issue you mentioned,I think Jhankar plays recent songs and if you have a problem listening to Kumar Sanu's songs its your personal issue.
I reckon they play most recent songs and its light years ahead compared to the FMs channels...
