Hi,
I have an IELTS(International English Language Testing system) score of 7.5. I would be applying to the Graduate Program in US Universties for the Fall 2007 session. I would like to know about the accepatabilty of IELTS in comparison to the TOEFL in US Universities. Do I have to appear for TOEFL also?

You will have to take TOEFL for sure even though IELTS and TOEFL fall on the same lines. Just in case, If you have shortlisted the Univ's you are planning to apply for, send an email to Int'l Admissions Dept. and see If they can waive off TOEFL for you.

hello Neetha,
well it is not very difficult to get jobs in research. Any field of study you choose can lead to research oriented wrk. Of course you don't want to make a mistake of spending too much money by going to some bad university over here.
It might be very difficult to get scholarships unless you have a very good GRE score. You can always get part time jobs (max of 20 hours per week) This way you can easily get $1000 per month.. Of course there are plenty of other ways to make money too.

Getting jobs in research areas is neither difficult nor easy. Proper networking certanly helps in getting your desired job. There are many research based jobs in the industry, which are not advertised. So building up your contact list will help you in getting information about these openings. Also you have to be proactive to seek these opportunities. The process is not easy, but with proper effort, the probability of getting rewarded with a nice job increases.

some tips about tips
by rediff student panel on Aug 09, 2006 11:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Remember the following

1.Please give 10 to 15% tip to your taxi driver. It is compulsory. Also in every restaurant where you have food once you are in US.

2.During take off and landing your ears might hurt. You can carry a chew on gum or just swallow to equalize pressure on both sides of your eardrum.

3.Learn a few things about cooking.

4.Carry a perfume. The apartments are airtight so your clothes will smell of onion. Espcailly students in Northeast in the winter.

5.Can carry a small gift for your advisor. Strictly simple.

6.Minimum 10-14 pairs of underclothes and sox. You will be doing laundry once a fortnight.

7.Try to develop a friend circle comprising of American and Indian friends.

hi i think what they mean by saying that they will not assist you in getting a visa is that they have no influence in embassy but if you are on J1 you can bring your wife on J2 just get her DS2019 form from the institute where you are and apply for the visa at the embassy in a proper way i came here like this myself i hope she will not have any problem. and also she can work too on j2 visa.
