Man all of you are saying marketing... Marketing ... marketing and all I am reading is good communication skills and sales .sales ... sales...
Some of you have done your MBA's in Marketing and thats all you can come up with .....
My friends I think the topic should now change to What exactly is your definition of marketing ...
Remember no matter how good your selling techniques and communication skills ... without proper strategic planning the whole marketing initiative amounts to nothing...
Of course there is customer services, PR, market research.market communications

hey , i guess u r absolutely right . myself being a sales enggr. workin for an MNC and wanna do MBA in marktin and thts wht the idea of marketin i hav i n my mind
Dear guys, when iam in MBA i gone through dual specilisation ie..fin & mktg. mY prefer always go throug mktg rather than fin.Because of is to learn the thing in the market is marketing only.
Now a days i can see the individuals who has completed finance ,HR and computer science chooses their career as marketing.TO visit various companies and to meet high level officials in various concerns marketing helps one individual and also it helps to learn more. With the help of marketing one can learn finance, administration, time and all type of stratgies. By making marketing as a base, one can go for administration or HR. so that he will be able to judge what happens in the market, the statement comes to him it is really ok or not.So i can say, you can choose any field of your own, learn marketing first and go to your field. In the modern world marketing is interrelated to all the fields.
Do you know of any company that is without a marketing executive ???? Do you know of any company without a finance guy??? I am sure that your answer is NO. Both marketing and finance should go hand in hand to make a company successful.
My next question would be what does a marketing executive do?? He is the person who is directly in touch with the suppliers and the customers. He is the person who could communicate well. He is the person who generates ideas and executes them. In short, he is the representative of the company.
On the other hand, finance is the support function. A finance guy helps the marketing guy to execute the tasks. He is the guy who keeps checking the cash flow in the company and warns the marketing guy in case of any discrepancies. The marketing guy would then go back to the vendor and negotiate a better deal.
Hence, one could not demean a particular career. One should always follow ones dreams and should do things of ones interest. And keep the long term goal, the destination in mind.
My name is Vidhya. Iam working as Executive-Client Relations in a Pvt Company in Chennai.I have finished 4 years Advanced Diploma course in Business Management from TASC (The Ashram School of Careers)and have two years of work experience.Iam 24 years old. My contact number is 9840692778.
As most people said, it all depends on what kind of person you are and what is your area of strength.
But given an option to me, I would prefer marketing to finance, since marketing is one field, which is really lively, and the amount of satisfaction one derives after getting a deal is really great. But, a marketing person must know how to convince a customer, for which he should be convinced about the product first. Even to sell a financial product, you would require marketing skills. This is one field wherein all aspects of management have to be put into action. The pay scale is more or les the same for both marketing and finance.
But ultimately one has to decide where he/she will fit into.
"Your future depends on many things, but mostly on you."
Note: Already i have posted my opinion through my yahoo and rediff mail accounts. So please ignore those.

hey i guess u know much about marketing and can u please tell me whch are the companies that offers the core marketing profiles rather than sales executive or such
It is important to remember that marketing is important next to operations because the finance guys will come into picture when marketing personnel will iniate sales to generate revenue. When the revenues start pouring in then finance comes into play ,as to how the money is going to be utilized for the futuristic investments, expansions, mergers& acquisitions.

Dear Mr.Desai, The most important thing that is required to start the firm is capital and that has to be managed properly by a finance professional to generate the knid of revenues to hire a marketing professional to increase revenues/sales/profits etc . Then comes the second part of planning for the future investments, M & A, etc. Primarily its CASH MANAGEMENT is what that is important but with a sensible mix of marketing with it at a later stage.
Cheers, Santosh,MBA(Fin), Batch of 2006, ICFAI Business School, Bangalore
how far my concern is that neither marketing nor finance is better hr is the best field of specialisation for an mba ,because without well managed human resource we cant get maximum output from them which is directly concerned with marketing and finance, now a days organisation is also understanding the importance of well managed employee ultimately the work is to be done by the human esource
Dear Sir, Initially when one passes out of the college and initial stages of career it matters whether one does MBA marketing or finance. But one's life or career is a long term thing and changes are bound to occur. Marketing is good for initial stages of career as one can move and agility is there but over a period of time they are the other options which are going to matter.
