What you wrote in the article is 100% true. Toady most of the graduates choose their career as a call centre professional. In a call centre you can grow professionally and economically.
It really surprises me no end the length people have gone to debunk the BPO industry. One clarification, BPO industry is not call centre industry, it has wings like analytics, insurance, finance, medicine which involve more brains than most of routine jobs do. Let me tell AArti of the story that she need not be depressed. After completing my hotel management, I worked with a 5 star chain starting as a management trainee and leaving the industry 5 years later as a lobby manager. 2 years into the BPO industry, I can look back with satisfaction at my decision. This industry has attracted go getters from across the industry because of transperency, growth opportunities, amazing facilities and fantastic pay packages. Yes, there are downsides like graveyard shifts, but that's the jinx this industry would have to live with. And which industry does not have its downside? You think the job is easy, try staying awake at nights or try staying polite the next time someone abuses you!! This industry grooms you to live your life the way you want to. So all you naysayers, think twice and learn more about this industry to comment upon it! Or are you jealous of the money here??

Hey Puneet, I dont fully agree with what you have said.Besides the comments posted in this columns do not reflect the views of everyone. Its an opinion based column. So you dont have to go ballistic over what people say.I was in the call centre industry for a year as a Technical Support Exec.I was totally stressed out by the time i completed 1 year. This domain is basically is a dead end.I was in for the money and was waiting for an opportunity to jump once my chance came.I have an MCA degree.I am in the software industry bcuz that is what i studied for..I would suggest to people that they join call centres to groom themselves for the long run as it really helps you a lot.And al that talk about improving your English in a call centre is rubbish. It takes years of practice.
And besides joing the BPO/ITES industry depends from person to person.Make hay while the sun shines...

Comment upon the article or my views if you got something to say. Or are you one of so many people listed here who have an opinion on everything without knowing an iota of what they are commenting upon. So beautiful mind (HA)... Just chill!
i seriously feel that joining call center is dangerous.it changes biological clock of the human, brings health problems.People lack the human feelings and are very blunt. They get into bad habits like boozing, smoking.they only use sugar coated language.
ya,well said about ur suggestion.i think u r working in any software company. to develop our skills u said its right, but as per our family situation i think its right to go in call centre..i think nobody knows about their family problems. but in my way first two years they can depend on call centres and then move to other....
its true that because of the present the people are ruining their future. i strongly feel that call centre employess fall in the no man's land in the future!
yes, the job is alluring now but what next? it has no or least growth prospects may be money can be earned with passage of time but ultimately there is no carrer satisfaction...
try if you fit anywhere else otherwise "lage raho"!
P.S- call centre employees, don feel bad its my opinion and the views can definitely vary from me to you and somebody else too!!
Call centres really are painful, the ppl get paid a measly salary( may be high, but v r wkng night hrs, boss...)... On the whole it saps us of complete energy, and that too while wkng as a 'cheap labour' 4 the foreigners. It is similar to the case, where a contracter hires cheap labour from neighbouring villages, rather than ppl from the city available, just to save a few bucks.
Also it demoralises us in that, we work as slaves 4 people abroad, and in return get hurled with abuses and little growth oppurtunities...
Ofcourse, those who have no other means of livelihood, and are not eligible 4 the proffesional jobs have no option. What pains is the lackadaisical attitude of the profffesional youth( read Engineers) goin in 4 such jobs just to make fats buck... temporarily.
Also note that many companies, and B-Schools, do not regard call centre experience to have met their eligibility criteria.. So literally v r wasting few years in our life adding nothin to our resume....
Other day, I got a call from my relative who asked for a advice for his friend. The boy had completed Diploma in engineering and was jobless for 3~4 months. Family needs him to earn. He was offered a job in Call center (Big 4 company)and was reluctant to join. due to (1) Bond involved (2) Call Center Industry's reputation My advice was to accept the job. Since the timings were mostly night, utilise the time to pursue AMIE or some other qualificaton. Logic was (1) Fulfill immediate requirements (2) See if the job suits (3) Try to develop core competency. Hope this adds to already put arguments.
Why can't the call centres shift to villages where the infrastructure costs will be low as compared to cities. It has to be well organised as we find lot many centres neglecting the employees in various forms. At least for one full decade the boom is going to remain;the chinese and other asian countries will catch on with us,then the present status will come down.It is only china's english is very poor we have the supremacy. We are good at hindi and urdu hence we can get the gulf market too."Beat the iron when it is hot.
