Well written Harsha. "Shabas" to the team and congratulations to the Nation. Sure enjoy the great victory, but it is now time to come back to earth. Matches against the Aussies are just round the corner and they will be fired up to do their best, so our team should now focus on the next task. Whilest rewarding players for their success is not bad it has to be kept in prespective least it goes to their heads. Let us not forget that the team was there doing a job for which they already receive adequate payments compared to the "heros" of the past. Politicans should be kept out least they corrupt our sports like all other things. Well done once again come back to earth and back to nets.
Hello Mr. Member of microsopic minority of India. I appreciate that you think you got a sense of proportion and balance as a gift from God. But, my dear friend why do you have the red eye on BCCI only? It all starts from the sponserers. If BCCI has got sponserers, they have enough money to spend. They are appreciating their employees for their performance as you/ me get from our Employer. Why are you so jeleous if Cricket has the great fan following and not Hockey in India? It's individuals choice of interes for their entertainment. For me, all your thoughts are senseless. If you are trying to teach the crores of citizens of India then better you check your facts right. We love Cricket and our team no matter how they perform. If they are not performing well, we give them "gali". If they succeed we appreciate them with the same intensity. Its all our love which reflects every time for our own loved ones.

The thought crossed my mind and Im sure crossed the minds of many people. The series was too perfect.
But there are hundreds of players and officials involved and if anything was fixed one of them they would surely talk to a reporter or police.
You do have a point, Mr. Member of Microscopic Minority! However, why thank God? God has surely not saved the millions of poor who are victims of poverty, war, earthquakes and tsunamis. In fact, we do waste quite a bit of money, time, energy and food in the name of God. Why do people still worship God? The answer is some people just blindly believe in God because he offers hope and peace of mind from the ills of the world. Similarly, there are millions of people who love cricket because it is fun, mostly harmless and offers peace of mind. So, if you have the misfortune of not being able to appreciate cricket and are "growing" old in your thoughts, please let others enjoy this wonderful game of cricket and stay young at heart. Quit your holier than thou attitude and get a life!

You still did not answer on why the Govt should spend lakhs of rupees as prize money. BCCI is a private organization and they can give their employees as much money and incentives but why waste public money.
I feel the same when Govt spends on God/religion as well, like when they spend tax-rupees to subsidize Haj-travel.

yes what u said is right . we people pay tax and it should happend we spend it on some good things that will help lots of people . its good to acknowledge players but it shouldnt be monetry way . BCCI is already giveing money so why not promote other sports as well . we want to be champions in every feild not just cricket
BCCI can shower gifts and money and private sponsors can give millions of $s to cricketers, no problem. BCCI is a private franchise registered overseas and as every private company, they can pay how much ever they want to cricketers as long as it is taxed.
What irks me is this- why are governments spending tax-money on cricketers? Why are the CMs giving free land and houses to cricketers? Why is the cricket team blocking traffic of a labourer who is running late for an interview?
i dont think any country in world will think twice before holding reception of sports team it will help in national bonding . is bcci responsible for roads and infra. man get a life i seriously believe you need to get a life. or why dont you contribute your money for the poor instead of advising others
here excess was done . one should keep a balance ..in all events and spheres of life. this is a part of life where we have rejoiced, it could have been kept within reasonable limits and not have caused inconvenience and adverse feelings to others....
Cricket is a profession. And it earns revenue. The professionals therefore deserve a cut of the revenue. Like any other fair business. Do you question it when Bond Traders get bonuses of 1 crore? Do you question it when film stars earn a crore? Then why would you not like Yuvraj earning a bonus of a crore which might be a small part of the revenue that he is responsible for generating? Dont quite get your logic.
Your observations of India are true of any capitalistic society. If you want equality for all then you should promote socialism and communism... but that has its own problems right?

Why govt funds? Why public wastage?
Does a bond trader get bonuses from the government (rupees earned as taxes)?

Hmm..."created happiness 'for' crores of Indians"
RajneeshChandraMohan, maybe if the govt. had built a school in your village with the same money, you wouldn't have been the village-idiot you seem to have turned out to be.

how much money we are ready to pay to buy a Movie ticket to watch a movie to have some happiness and in turn the actors earn cores on this....... So why not cricketers earn more money by giving us happiness......Atlease I will say the happiness what I have got after watching the match was worth of few super hit moviews ........so let them earn and as long as they are wining.....and give happiness to the nation...
Totally agree! Am thinking of the poor Traffic Police...have been on ganpati festival bandobast for the entire week...and instead of rest had another hard day at work!

can anyone tell me one good way of alleviating poverty in india...is it by donating money to workless people...make more useless people???
Cricket is a commodity in India. It sells and it sells big.Though there is some truth in the article, you can't turn their thinking. The people enjoying the victory doesn't all know this, they forget their own responsibilities and watch and enjoy cricket. One time hockey was craze as long as we were winning it was enjoyed by people. Cricket and Hockey were equally enjoyed and both were poor at that time money wise. But cricket grew and earned money for itself. The MNC's could visiualize and made it (Cricket) a commodity which could be sold and that too big time sale. Indirectly the public by their product and pay the money. When you pay money you are entitled to enjoy in your own way.Cheers to TEAM INDIA.
