BCCI does not have to explain. It is a private club - it's not a public listed company or a government run organization. They are accountable to no-one, and that's the beauty of it. It's their money, their team and their decision. If you don't like it, well, too bad.
Good observation and very relevant. India does not need a privately run private club -- that is just a private trust to be run by government politicos.
Government politicos should start government sponsored body with our hard earned taxes and then start syphoning off the cash through appointkents of such Gary Coaches.
Then they need not be accountable to any one It will be their praja ka money, their team and their Kirsten decision.

Then why is a minister in it and flexing his muscles. It is aprivate club with all GOVT muscle power to bully other private clubs. That minister should be taking care of agriculture in Maharashtra where the farmers are commiting suicide and not spend his time in finding cricket coach.

"When all world is out sorcing their jobs to India. It is stupid to go for a foreign coach." - that is a stupid argument. The world outsources work to India because we do an acceptable job for the price (Emphasis on price). If money or profits were not an object, companies would not outsource. Why are US defence projects not outsourced? Secrecy is a factor, but not all projects are top secret. The reason is defence projects are not strongly constrained by budgets.
Global free trade is not just about outsourcing to INdia and china. It's about sourcing talent that gives best value for money. Now, Kirsten was a great batsman for SA. He is no worse a player (I believe a better player) than Patil or Amarnath. We've had Indian coaches for years (the Azhar/Tendulkar captaincy era) - India's team has actually done better, at least in tests, under foreign coaches, and if you drop the world cup 2007, ODI performances also have been better. (India did well under chappell's tenure initially. Only in late 2006-2007 did things start falling off).
Anyway, what do you know about whether or not Kirsten is a good coach? Were you there in the selection meeting? Don't make sweeping allegations against Gavaskar and co if you can't back it up with data.

More than anything, Mr. Kandam reeks of regionalism. It's not his fault though as we Indians have imbibed regionalism in our blood. REGIONALISM/ POLITICS WAS, IS N WILL BE THE BANE OF INDIAN SPORTS.
Yes, I completely agree with Ajit Wadekar. These foreign coaches come with little commitment and at extraordinary prices, would bad mouth and demoralize the team and then go away to the next assignment. Greg Chappel after the bad experience (from both BCCI point of view as also that of Greg) has chosen to coach a state level team AFTER COACHING THE NATIONAL TEAM. This simply goes to show that money is everything and everything else matters little. At least Sandip Patil has a good track record as also Mohinder Amarnath. And Venkatesh Prasad seems to be doing a decent job. All this leads to confirm that an Indian coach can and is probably as good as any foreign one. And Gary Kirsten even before he accepts his assignment has already blamed BCCI for the delay in offering him the position and has stated that he will be available only for the second half of the tour. Do you need any more indications?
