There are reasons why Kirsten might get the nod for the India coach.
Besides his vast experience and outstanding record as a player, Kirsten is relatively very young still. In fact, Sachin Tendulkar and Anil Kumble had made their international debut much before he came on the scene.
That could work as a two-edged sword, with Kirsten having retired only three years ago well aware of the demands of international cricket but might well find it difficult to command respect from the Indian players, many of whom he has shared dressing rooms with.
But the BCCI may choose to see the glass half-full at this point in time.

All said and done...coaches are only as good as the engines! At this level you need a real specialist or no one. India has bowling and fielding coaches, which is good. We could have opted for a batting coach(if its required). Any thing more than that would be absolutely useless. GChappell with all his reputation as a player did not do anything for anyone. The pace bowlers started bowling like sick old women. The batsmen started batting as if they had never held a bat in their hands. The fielding standards never improved. If the answere to that is getting younger players/different players/stronger players, then we might as well have a selector appointed in a similar manner, why have a coach.
Because India doesnt want to be coached! Simple logic! The top four players who are a certainity in the team now, i.e. Sachin-Saurav-Dravid-Kumble- on an average played more than 100 tests. It helps if someone doesnot have previous coaching experience or else he would try to rub that experience on these players who played an average of above 100 tests which they will resent particularly being in their twilight of their careers. They dont like another controversy particularly after the bitte experience of Greg Chappel. Hence it is better to have someone like Gary Kirsten who would keep a low profile atleast till the retirement of these top four. Then one may review his performance and attitude and decide to renew the contract or not.
Sunny was right in his choice. If Ajit Wadekar expands his horizon of cricketing thought, he would be able to appreciate better!
I fully agree with the statement given by Mr. Ajit Wadekar. When our country has so many personalities who are fully aware of modern cricket and who are tremendously experienced in cricket coaching, why BCCI is running after foreign coach ?? When rubbish Chappel was given the job, I hope that time Mohinder Amarnath was the absolutely correct person for the post. But BCCI had shown their great "PROFESSIONALISM" by appointing Chappel and more "PROFESSIONALISM" by ignoring one of our great Indian Cricketer-Cum-Coach Mohinder Amarnath. I hope if M.Amarnath would have been the coach, there would not have very much difference in the performance as compared to rubbish Chapel's coaching. BCCI is playing a dirty politics and again they will have to pay the nation for their this nonsence decision.
I think the reason behind the selection of G K as coach was OUR BCCI president Mr Sharad Pawar want to be elected as ICC president. In the year 2006-2007, He got 5 votes in favour of him out of 12. If he can bag another two votes he will become President - ICC. Each country participating in ICC has one vote. It's what i come to know through the news papers.
Presently we need coach and debate is that whether we engage Indian or Foreign coach. When we go back under captiancy of azhar that we had a foriegn coach i.e., John Wright and strategies and tactics were well received by our players and inturn resulted positively.Under same azhar captaincy, sandeep patil also did as coach that time also indian players given well response. My point is that give that post to anybody, be foreign or indian.Give some to him analyse the situation after some time and decide to extend or sack.
It is a great mystery as to why BCCI is interested to engage coach from foreign countries. Is there any other benefit ? We all are aware that,Foreigners are expert in policy of Divide and Rule. What is the out come of Indian Team from Greg Chappel.? Who has created internal querrel between the sernior players and coach ,junior new comers ? What was the performance of Indian team in last World Cup ?
Indian has produced world class Cricketers like Mohinder Amarnath,Kapil Dev,Sunil Gavaskar,GR Vishwanath,Anshuman Gaekwad,Kiran More,Ajit Wadekar,Ashok Mankad, Azaruddin, Sandip Patil, etc. Now, my question is which country has offered the status of Coach to Indians except bottom level Kenya ? Now, Why BCCI should waste costly foreign exchange Luxury to Foreigners ? There are language problems also for Foreign Coach.Actually, Indain team do not require Coach because they are not child. They are playing cricket since last several years & players get selected in Indian squad only after performance in Ranji Tropy.Present Indian cricket team is playing well and therefore, there is no necessity to engage any foreign coach.Foreign coach are interested to earn fantastic money from India. At the most they give physical exercise training only which any Miliatary Officer from Indian Army can give to Indian Cricket Team. There are quite very good Cricket Coaching Institutes run by retired Prominent Test players of India`s cricket team.BCCI should take the benefits of Indians instead of engagi
Half this Indian team has played against Gary Kristen when he was till recently playing for the South African, so I wonder how is gonna coach Team India. Again BCCI has its own thinking wave length, no one knows they come out with lots of surprises from their closet which only they know. GOD SAVE TEAM INDIA
look at what happened at last Worrld cup when chappel was coach and look at t20 world cup when there was no coach so how come that matters if India has a coach or not tell me guys DOES THAT REALLY MATTER??????????

Simple logic that Mr.Wadekar has not understood is when India will get bashed-up down under then u require a scrape-goat and that is Mr.Kirsten. Also, when the whole world looks to outsource to India various work & they like our way of managing things, BCCI is looking at foreigners for taking care of this players. This is called reverse outsourcing. BCCI does not have any player who understand cricket, they only understand money and how to waste or use it to their advantages. Politics die hard in this country and Politicians sell this country. Spoil everything till it stinks
i think we need 3 caoch for batting, balling and the feilding... batting coach - danny morison, balling caoch - arjun ranatunga and feilding coach - cortney walsh

Hi dude Keshav, please check your spelling before you send something, its Bowling and not balling, fielding and not fielding finally its coach and not coach. Also its spelt as Courtney Walsh and not cortney walsh as you have mentioned. Pity state too many people giving too many suggestions with out knowing the basics
