A great way to warn the 'big and indispensable' players in the team by setting an example. If non-performance is at the heart of the issue, I don't know what Virendra Sehwag, Wassim Jaffer or even Tendulkar is doing out there on the field. I think the choice was tough and Pathan paid the price. It is unfair and will certainly affect the player's confidence. And yes, don't forget to watch VRV Singh...
I absolutely agree with this take. He is not doing good enough to be retained in the team. It happens in international cricket that opponents get to know the weaknesses of a player and just hit on those areas. Same thing is happening with Pathan. He must work out his minuses with playing in domestic cricket. Zaheer was not doing well when he was left out of the team. He played domestic, grinded himself and see what he is doing now. He is in best of his bowling at the moment. Everybody want to see Pathan taking wickets, hitting sixes but if he is not doing the expected, he must be given some time to work out himself, strengthening his strengths, eliminate his weaknesses.
I think its just the right move taken by the Team Management/Board.
If they would have taken same decision against players like shewag and others..who's form is worst than pathan, it would have been justified..other wise this decision is just show off..
Right move by BCCI. Sehwag and Jaffar also should follow this rule and they also need check their mistakes in domestic cricket. Some players are more interesting in making money through advertisements rather than playing cricket. This is correct lesson for them.
According to me sending Patan back was not a wiser decision especially when selection committee till now hasn't named any replacement as yet. VRV Singh hasn't performed good in first test so according to me he should be replaced by Pathan in this test. It not only gave India an extra bat, also the pressure while bowling should be less on Pathan as Zaheer and Sreesanth are performing great.
The sending back of Pathan is not the right decision at this point in time. This is a major blow to the Indian team, as there could be psychological effects on the player. There would be very few cricket followers if this trend continues as more and more people are switching to football as their first-love game. Bad move by the selectors according to my perspective.
If we take this step positively then it is a good move to send a player back home who is out of form and being the WC in next couple of months so that he can do some good practice and make himself available before the WC. But if Wasim doesnt perform now he should also be sent back cos there should not be any Partiality with any Player. I have lots of faith in Vengsarkar but not in Chapell or Dravid(sorry to say that).

Dear Sav, Yr faith in Vengasarkar is misplaced. He is symbol of nepotism interested only in promoting his protege Wasim Jaffer whom he had coached in his cricket academy. That is why Jaffer was selected despite flopping in Challenger Trophy and Gautam Gambhir was dropped from one day team despite excellent performance. Again despite flopping totally in S.A. Jaffer is still being played and Gambhir is dropped. Both Jaffer and Vengasarkar should be sent back to India
